Google Lens - Powerful and Useful AI-Powered App (2022 Review)

Image: Google

Google Lens, a brainchild of Google, is an AI-powered app that operates with smartphone cameras and advanced machine learning. It recognizes images and delivers relevant information related to the images or objects it identifies using visual analysis.

Position the said object in front of the camera and the app will understand and interpret it. Google Lens is one of the top valuable Google apps many did not know existed.

The user can execute the following command with the app based on the image before it:

  • Translate
  • Text
  • Search
  • Homework
  • Shopping
  • Places
  • Dinning
The app is so intelligent that it can recognize anything like objects, places, people, etc., and presents the user with a pop-up window detailing the object. If you point Lens on an object, it will try to find out what it is and then present you with different options. However, the downer is that the app is not so clever but fast in detecting things.

Google Lens was launched in 2017 as a standalone app but later was integrated into Google Pixel phones. Lens is a nifty little app that can do so much. For example, if you take a picture of the SSID sticker on the back of a Wi-Fi router, your phone would easily connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Features

  1. Translate: If you have a block of text before you, like instruction on a product in any language you do not understand, launch Google Len and point the camera at it. The app would utilize the Google Translate plug-in to translate the text quickly for you to read. No more fear of Chinese text on manuals; just Lens it! It's important to note that the app can also translate offline.

  2. Text Selection: Many times, a document is sent to you in PDF or scanned; you need to lift some texts in it as a reference when you are typing. Well, you don't have to go the route of typing the text from scratch. All you have to do is point your phone's camera at the text block, then highlight the section you want within Google Lens. Next, copy and paste it anywhere you want to use it, on your phone, document, or email.

  3. Text search: Imagine reading a book or document and wanting to search the internet to discover where a particular statement or text originated from. You can do it now easily with Lens. Point your camera to the text and highlight it in Lens, then search the highlighted text on Google. This is handy when you are reading a technical document that would require looking up big words on Google.

  4. Shopping: Ladies often talk to their friends or strangers about a beautiful dress they wore and would like to buy the same. Now with Lens, you don't need to ask them where or how much they got the dress. What you must do is, snap the dress with your phone camera, and Lens will identify the dress. Not only that, Lens would also show you an array of similar dresses, and you might be lucky to see the exact one, the price, and where to buy it. This is very useful because you can use it on any product you like to find out the price or where to buy it. You can also get a review of the intended product.

  5. Google homework questions: If you have homework to do or a problematic mathematics question, for example. You can the answer by scanning it with Lens, and Google will supply the answer.

  6. Search around you: If you are lost and cannot trace your way, with Lens, you will locate your way out. Launch the app and point your camera around you; Lens will detect and identify your surroundings. It would supply details of the landmarks around you to help you locate your way out.

  7. Dinning: Google lens can help you detect what's on a menu in a restaurant or eatery. It would give you details of the food, recipes, etc.

Availability

Google Lens is available for download on Google Play Store for Android and IOS. Google Lens has been incorporated into Google Chrome for ease of use.

Recognized Device

You can use the app on any Android device. Be that as it may, some Android devices are excluded, though. An example of such devices is the Huawei brand which is banned from Google Services. It's also available on iPhone or iPad.
