Marriage scandal: Alex O’s wife Fathima and Nollywood actress Oby Edozieh take their cases to Nollywoodgossip + allegations you never heard before

The affair between Nollywood actress Oby Edozieh and one time Nigerian music star Alex O is no longer news. While speculations persist in the media and in Nollywood about the true state of the affair, Nollywoodgossip has been in correspondence with South Africa whereAlex O is based.

Our contact with South Africa started on Thursday, December 8^th2011, and we appreciate their patience as we investigated the matter and listened to both sides.

It all started when we got this message below.

Heard some rumors about a romantic link between Oby Gold andAlex O., and he is a married man with a child. He is divorcing his wife so he can marry her! And it’s apparently all about how she [Oby Gold] can help him make a comeback in Nigeria and finance him…. Wedding Bells…more like another woman’s leftovers!!!

We replied that we don’t normally publish rumors and that we would prefer to have some evidence before publishing a story like this. So over the past three weeks, we have been writing forth and back. We managed to obtain a marriage certificate and a couple photographs of the couple. We also talked with Oby Edozieh along the line.

Today, we’re presenting all we learned about the issue.

The people in South Africa want us to publish the marriage certificate between Alex O and wife Fathima to show that they’re still legally married.

According to them, Alex O and Fathima got married in a ceremony in2007 in Singapore. Alex O converted to Islam and his Muslimname is BILAL.

They said that there has not been a divorce yet, because a court date has not been set.

We’re told that if Alex O, who is currently in Nigeria, visits South Africa in January, it’ll be for court appearance since the courts won’t open until January 15^th 2012.

They said that Alex O and wife, Fathima (a South African/Indian) were not even separated when Oby stepped in, that they were still living together in the same apartment even as Alex was rumored to be seeing Oby, and later traveled to Nigeria.

And upon arriving Nigeria, Alex O called his wife in South Africa to inform her that he arrived safely – only that it was later learned that he actually made that call using Oby’s phone.

We were told that when Alex finally spoke to his wife about divorce, the woman was shattered. And to assuage the wife’s fears, Alex told her that even though getting a divorce now will be better for both of them, she shouldn’t worry because, “people who get divorced do get back together again.”

A friend very close to Alex O and Fathima told Nollywoodgossip:

“I know the wife personally and I’m very angry at the way he has treated her and his own child. And I don’t like how Oby is willing to have an affair with a man who is married and lure him away from his family. I hope Nigerian people agree with me on this. I know they have very high moral values and will disapprove of the way this matter has been handled.  Of course, he must have told Oby a sad story about how horrible his wife is and how he has suffered, but she has worked and supported him financially. Maybe Oby is the victim. After all, what he does to another, he can do to her too.”

We learned that Fathima may be suing Alex O for bigamy.

Bigamy is the crime of marrying a person while already legally married to someone else and in South Africa, If convicted; the bigamist could face a hefty fine or a suspended sentence and would receive a criminal record.

When Nollywoodgossip asked what Alex O does for a living, we were told that he owns a digital film production company that makes no money. And that his wife supported him financially until he met Oby. That he abandoned his wife and daughter. That his wife, a Muslim too, is devastated that he could do this to her and their 3 year old daughter after how she worked hard to support him for years.

The family friend close to the couple also said:

“How could he do that to his wife and the innocent 3 year old girl? I wonder if he has any money to buy a wedding ring, or did Oby buy it herself? He has found himself a sugar mummy…how old is Obyanyways?”

We contacted Oby Edozieh on this matter and she was very glad we contacted her first before publishing. She told us:

Why is it that every time an actress is about to wed, all kinds of stories start coming out from people who just don’t want them to be happy. And unfortunately, our beloved people that we entertain are quick to buy into these unfounded stories from d aggrieved ex-wives & mistresses. This is one of the reasons why I chose to keep my court wedding secret.

I only want to state this once and for all, that my husband is married to only me in this whole world. When my husband arrived into Nigeria, saw an email sent to him by this white woman. In d email she was saying how much she misses him, & now realizing d true meaning of d popular saying, that, ONE DOES NOT KNOW THE VALUE OF WHAT THEY HAVE UNTIL THEY LOSE IT. Emails and text messages don’t lie. She also made other related comments. A day after my wedding, I got a call from her, saying she is Alex’s Ex-wife. I asked her how she got my two cell phone numbers. She raised her voice and was rude.

I asked her what she wanted, since she & Alex are separated. She then said that the court granted Alex full access to their daughter, any time he wants to see her. She said she now wants d full custody of d child, now that Alex is married to me. And that he should come back & sign fresh custody papers. I cut off d phone, only for her to start sending text messages saying all sorts of things to create problems between Alex & I. I replied that there is nothing in this world she would say that will make me not to stand by him.

When she figured out that her plan wasn’t working, she started asking for all sorts of money & threatening to go to press & say all sorts of things to tarnish his good name. Alex asked me not to reply her messages. I showed him d text message of her asking for money, he called her & d phone was on speaker. He started asking her, what money she was being owed & who owed who. She hung up, a friend called my attention to a blog, where she was saying all sorts of nonsense about being married to Alex.

Such a woman can go to any length to achieve her ulterior motives; including telling all sorts of lies that may seem to be true. What married woman will be talking about re-drafting custody papers if she is still married to the man?

Which woman would want to contest their divorce if truly, the man is such a horrible person as she has painted him to be? How can somebody who has changed her surname back to her maiden name, even changed her email address which had her husband’s name back to her maiden name still claim to be married to him?

Alex is a reputable public figure, very calm, humble, hardworking, caring & honest artiste, loved by everybody. I’m d only one Alex O is married to in this whole world. So, she can go knock herself out on all d news media.

It is such a big laugh that someone who is 6 years older than I am is calling me names & referring to me as old.

She can dent us how ever she wants. N more comments. I AM DONE AND I AM OUT.
