A court-supervised DNA test has been conducted on the remains of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his son, Liam, as part of efforts to resolve the prolonged paternity dispute surrounding the child.
The exercise took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following a court order approving the collection of samples from both the late singer and the child to establish whether Mohbad was Liam’s biological father.
The development marks a significant step in the legal battle that has continued since the singer’s death in September 2023, with his father, Joseph Aloba, repeatedly questioning the child’s paternity and demanding a DNA examination.
Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, had approached the court seeking approval for a court-monitored DNA test to address the controversy. The court subsequently granted the application, appointed a welfare officer to supervise the proceedings and fixed October 31 for the exercise.
DNA Exercise Conducted Under Tight Security
The sample collection was carried out under tight security, with personnel deployed to the locations to prevent possible disturbances and ensure the process proceeded without interruption.
The security arrangements followed concerns about potential protests and public gatherings surrounding the exercise.
Joseph had reportedly called on his supporters on social media to show solidarity, while some users also suggested organising demonstrations in connection with the DNA test.
Those present during the proceedings included Mohbad’s mother, Abosede; his younger brother, Adura; and his wife, Omowunmi.
The exercise reportedly became emotional for members of the family, particularly during the identification of the singer’s remains for the sample collection.
Samples were obtained from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital, in Yaba, Lagos.
The collected materials were subsequently transported under heavy security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where additional samples were taken from Liam for laboratory examination.
Mohbad’s Lawyer Speaks On DNA Results
Speaking after the exercise, the lawyer representing Omowunmi, Barrister Kabiru, disclosed that there was no confirmed date for the release of the DNA results.
He explained that the parties involved would be formally notified through the court once the forensic examination had been completed and the outcome was ready.
The lawyer also commended the court and the Nigeria Police Force for their professionalism and coordination throughout the exercise.
According to him, the effective security arrangements and cooperation among the relevant authorities ensured that the sample collection was successfully completed without major disruption.
He further acknowledged the role played by the court in supervising the process and ensuring that the exercise followed the approved procedures.
Paternity Dispute Dates Back To Mohbad’s Death
The controversy surrounding Liam’s paternity has remained a subject of public discussion since Mohbad died in September 2023.
Following the singer’s death, his father, Joseph, repeatedly raised questions about whether Liam was his son’s biological child and insisted that a DNA test was necessary to establish the truth.
His demands generated widespread reactions, with social media users expressing different opinions about the dispute and the family’s handling of the matter.
Omowunmi, however, sought a court-supervised process to address the issue, leading to the application that resulted in the October 31 exercise.
The dispute has also attracted considerable public attention because of the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and the disagreements that have continued among members of his family.
The latest development is expected to provide scientific evidence that could help resolve the long-standing disagreement.
With samples now collected from both Mohbad’s remains and Liam, attention has shifted to the forensic examination and the eventual release of the findings.
The outcome is expected to help the court determine the child’s biological relationship with the late singer and potentially bring an end to the prolonged paternity controversy.
However, until the results are officially released, Liam’s paternity remains a matter awaiting scientific confirmation.
