Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has urged emerging filmmakers to remain committed to their ambitions, saying her latest career achievement should inspire the next generation of creatives to pursue their dreams.
Akindele made the appeal on Monday while announcing that her forthcoming movie, The Four: No One Fights Alone, would have its United Kingdom premiere on November 29 at ODEON Luxe Leicester Square in London.
The screening will make the production the first Nollywood movie to premiere at the 791-seat cinema, a development the filmmaker described as a significant achievement for the Nigerian film industry.
Reacting to the announcement, Akindele said she was excited about the milestone but considered its potential to encourage young creatives one of its most meaningful aspects.
In a post on X, she explained that she hoped her journey would convince aspiring filmmakers that they could also achieve their ambitions and take Nigerian stories to wider audiences.
“One of the things that means the most to me is knowing there are young creatives out there who look at my journey and say, ‘I can do this too.’ To every up-and-coming Nollywood filmmaker, please don’t give up on your dreams. I hope the work we’re doing today gives you a platform to tell your own stories and take them even further,” she wrote.
Akindele Says Nollywood’s Journey Is Just Beginning
The filmmaker attributed the achievement to consistent effort and dedication, noting that the development should not be viewed as the final destination for the industry.
She expressed confidence that the milestone would create room for greater opportunities for Nigerian filmmakers and help strengthen Nollywood’s presence internationally.
“This is just the beginning for our industry, and I’m excited about what we can do together,” she added.
Her message highlighted the importance of perseverance among young creatives, particularly those hoping to build successful careers in an industry that requires commitment, creativity and continuous effort.
Akindele also acknowledged the people who contributed to the production, appreciating the cast and crew for their work in bringing the movie to life.
She extended her gratitude to her fans and supporters, recognising their encouragement and continued support throughout her career.
‘The Four: No One Fights Alone’ Heads to London
The upcoming film, The Four: No One Fights Alone, is scheduled for its UK premiere on November 29 at ODEON Luxe Leicester Square.
The cinema, which has a capacity of 791 seats, will host what is described as the first Nollywood production to premiere at the venue.
The development represents another international exhibition opportunity for Nigerian cinema, as local productions continue to reach audiences outside the country.
For Akindele, the screening is not only a personal career achievement but also an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of Nollywood films to attract attention on international platforms.
Her announcement has also placed the upcoming production in the spotlight ahead of its Nigerian cinema release.
The film’s title, The Four: No One Fights Alone, points to a story built around collective strength, although further details about its plot were not included in the announcement.
Nigerian Cinema Release Set for December
Following the London premiere, the movie is expected to open in cinemas across Nigeria on December 11.
The local release will give Nigerian audiences an opportunity to watch the production after its international screening in the United Kingdom.
Akindele’s latest announcement comes as the filmmaker continues to expand her work and promote Nigerian storytelling to wider audiences.
Her appeal to upcoming filmmakers also reflects the importance of creating opportunities for new voices within the industry.
By encouraging young creatives not to abandon their ambitions, she stressed that the progress being made by established filmmakers could help open doors for others to tell their own stories.
The actress expressed optimism about the future of Nollywood, describing the London premiere as an early step towards what the industry could achieve through collective effort.
With the November 29 screening approaching, The Four: No One Fights Alone is set to make its London debut before arriving in Nigerian cinemas on December 11.
