Filmhouse Group has renewed its partnership with the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) for the 2026 edition, strengthening its support for the growth of African cinema and the development of opportunities for filmmakers across the continent.

The collaboration, which continues a relationship between both organisations, is expected to contribute to efforts aimed at promoting African storytelling, encouraging industry partnerships and connecting local filmmakers with wider audiences.

The 2026 edition of AFRIFF is themed Frames of the Future: Africa’s Creative Intelligence. The theme highlights the creative potential of the continent and the role of innovation, talent and fresh ideas in shaping the future of Africa’s entertainment industry.

Speaking about the partnership, Filmhouse Group Chief Executive Officer, Kene Okwuosa, said the organisation believes African stories deserve greater international recognition.

He noted that industry players must work together to create platforms where filmmakers can showcase their work and reach audiences beyond their immediate markets.

According to him, the continued relationship with AFRIFF provides an opportunity for Filmhouse Group to participate in discussions and initiatives that will influence the direction of African filmmaking.

The company operates across several areas of the entertainment business, including cinema exhibition, film distribution, production and streaming.

Through these activities, it plays a role in bringing films to cinemas and other viewing platforms while helping African productions gain access to larger audiences.

Filmhouse Group's Chief Marketing Officer, Mojisola Oladapo, also stressed the importance of connecting filmmakers with the people who consume their work. She explained that producing quality films is only one aspect of building a successful industry, as effective distribution and audience engagement are equally important.

Oladapo added that the partnership would allow the company to support creative professionals and contribute to efforts to make African content more accessible.

Similarly, Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer of FilmOne Limited and Filmhouse Group, highlighted the need for sustained investment and cooperation among stakeholders.

Awobokun maintained that developing a competitive African film industry requires more than compelling stories.

According to her, proper structures, financial commitment and collaboration are necessary to ensure that films reach audiences and generate lasting value for the people involved in their production.

AFRIFF has established itself as a meeting point for filmmakers, distributors, cinema operators and other professionals in the entertainment sector.

The festival provides opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and discussions about challenges and emerging possibilities within African filmmaking.

With the 2026 edition, Filmhouse Group and AFRIFF are looking to sustain conversations around the industry's development while creating more opportunities for emerging filmmakers and established creatives.

The renewed partnership also reinforces the importance of cooperation between entertainment companies and film festivals in building a stronger industry capable of competing internationally. By supporting platforms that celebrate African creativity, both organisations aim to contribute to the visibility and commercial growth of films produced across the continent.
