Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has spoken about what she described as a noticeable change in the Nigerian dating scene, saying younger men are becoming increasingly open to relationships with older women.
The actress shared her observation during a recent episode of her podcast, which was published on her YouTube channel.
According to Damilola Adegbite, social expectations that once suggested women should step away from dating after reaching a certain age are gradually losing their influence.
The 41-year-old actress said older women were previously made to feel that younger women automatically received greater attention in the dating market.
However, she believes attitudes are changing, with some younger men now showing clear interest in women who are considerably older than them.
Damilola Adegbite illustrated her point with a reference to Psalm 118:22, which speaks about a stone rejected by builders eventually becoming the cornerstone. She used the biblical passage to describe the changing perception of older women in relationships.
The actress said women who may once have felt overlooked because of their age could now find themselves receiving unexpected attention from younger admirers.
She also recounted situations in which younger men have openly expressed interest in women in their late 30s and 40s.
According to her, some of these men do not appear particularly concerned about the age difference and are confident about making their intentions known.
Damilola Adegbite said that confidence can itself become attractive, particularly when a younger man approaches an older woman without appearing embarrassed or uncertain about the age gap.
Her comments have sparked discussion around changing attitudes towards age differences in relationships, particularly in a society where women have traditionally faced greater pressure over their age and marital status.
The actress's remarks also touch on broader conversations about how dating preferences are evolving among younger Nigerians.
While age remains an important consideration for many people seeking relationships, individual preferences can differ significantly.
Damilola Adegbite's observation suggests that some younger men are increasingly willing to challenge conventional expectations about who they should date.
Her comments also highlight the possibility that women who once believed their dating prospects diminished with age may be experiencing a different reality.
The actress did not suggest that every younger man prefers older women. Rather, she presented the trend as something she has personally noticed and questioned why more young men appear comfortable expressing interest in older women.
Her remarks have added another perspective to ongoing conversations about modern relationships, dating expectations and changing views surrounding age differences between partners.
As social attitudes continue to evolve, Damilola Adegbite's comments are likely to generate further conversations about whether traditional ideas surrounding age and relationships still hold the same influence among younger generations.
