Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has opened up about her views on marriage, explaining that although she recognises its importance, she is not allowing it to determine her happiness or direction in life.

The actress shared her thoughts during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where she discussed the challenges women face in marriage, particularly when they are expected to shoulder most of the responsibilities at home.

According to Bisola, some women begin to question the purpose of marriage when they are left to provide for their families, raise their children and manage household affairs without sufficient support from their partners.

She observed that women who find themselves in such situations may wonder why they should remain in relationships where they are effectively handling their responsibilities alone.

Despite acknowledging these difficulties, the actress stressed that she has not rejected the idea of marriage. Rather, she believes it should not become the defining factor in her existence.

Bisola described marriage as an important institution in society but maintained that she would welcome it if the opportunity came naturally.

The actress expressed satisfaction with her current circumstances, noting that she is doing well and has no reason to feel pressured into pursuing marriage.

Her comments reflect her belief that personal fulfilment should not depend entirely on marital status, particularly when someone is already content with the direction of their life.

Bisola, who is a mother to a 17-year-old daughter, also discussed her experience raising a child as a single parent.

While acknowledging the difficulties associated with parenting without a partner, she explained that she makes a conscious effort to ensure her daughter understands the responsibilities involved.

The actress said she does not want her daughter to view single parenthood as something to aspire to, emphasising that raising a child should not be the responsibility of just one person.

She believes that both parents should contribute to bringing up their children, rather than leaving one person to manage the emotional, financial and domestic demands alone.

Reflecting on her personal journey, Bisola revealed that she turned 40 in January and expressed deep appreciation for herself and the stage of life she has reached.

She described her current period as the best time of her life, highlighting her satisfaction with her achievements and personal growth.

Her remarks have added to ongoing conversations about marriage, parenting and the expectations society places on women, particularly those who have built fulfilling lives outside traditional marital arrangements.
