Tyler Perry is set to bring a new faith-based drama to audiences with The Gospel of Christmas, which will premiere exclusively on Netflix on November 11, 2026.

The upcoming film is written and directed by Perry, who also serves as one of its producers alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland. The production combines faith, family, temptation and community struggles in a story centred on a pastor facing an extraordinary challenge before the Christmas season.

At the heart of the movie is Isaac, a struggling pastor who unexpectedly inherits his family’s church in a tough neighbourhood in New York City. While the inheritance gives him an opportunity to continue his family’s legacy, the responsibility also places him in a difficult position as he attempts to keep the church and its community together.

Isaac’s journey is complicated by doubt and temptation, forcing him to confront questions about his faith and his ability to lead the people who depend on him.

His challenges become even greater when he encounters a sinister adversary named Mr. Ehtmai Lived, portrayed by Ricco Ross. The character becomes a major threat to Isaac’s efforts to protect his community and fulfil his responsibility as a pastor.

With the holidays approaching, Isaac must find the strength to overcome the obstacles confronting him and use his faith to help save the community.

Tank Leads As Pastor Isaac

Durrell “Tank” Babbs takes on the lead role of Isaac, the pastor at the centre of the story.

Tank is joined by Fantasia Barrino Taylor, who plays Rebecca, Isaac’s wife. Their characters form part of the personal side of the story as Isaac struggles to balance his responsibilities as a husband, pastor and community leader.

Ricco Ross portrays Mr. Ehtmai Lived, the sinister adversary standing in Isaac’s way.

The conflict between Isaac and his adversary adds tension to the narrative, particularly as the pastor attempts to overcome both external threats and the doubts and temptations affecting his own faith.

Rather than focusing only on the challenges facing the church, the film places Isaac’s personal convictions at the centre of his struggle. His battle becomes one of maintaining faith while dealing with circumstances that threaten his mission.

Gospel Icons Join The Production

The Gospel of Christmas also features appearances and contributions from several prominent names in gospel music.

Among those associated with the production are gospel icons CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams and Fred Hammond. Kirk Franklin is also involved as a producer, adding another significant gospel music figure to the project.

Their involvement brings a strong gospel music connection to the film and complements its faith-based storyline.

The presence of established gospel artistes also expands the production beyond a conventional Christmas drama, connecting the story with personalities known for their contributions to gospel music.

The film’s combination of a church setting, a pastor’s struggle and appearances from gospel figures places faith at the centre of its narrative.

A Christmas Story Built Around Faith

The story of The Gospel of Christmas is set against the period leading up to the holidays, giving Isaac a limited window to confront the problems facing him and his community.

His inheritance of the family church provides the starting point for the story, but saving the church and its surrounding community requires him to deal with more than financial or organisational difficulties.

Isaac must overcome doubt, resist temptation and face Mr. Ehtmai Lived while attempting to remain committed to his faith.

The production therefore brings together elements of drama, spirituality and Christmas storytelling through the experience of a pastor who finds himself responsible for preserving his family’s church and helping the people around him.

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, the film is scheduled to arrive exclusively on Netflix on November 11, 2026.

With Tank and Fantasia Barrino Taylor leading the cast, Ricco Ross taking on the role of the sinister adversary and gospel icons including CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams and Fred Hammond contributing to the project, The Gospel of Christmas is positioned as a faith-centred holiday drama.

Audiences will be able to follow Isaac’s journey as he battles doubt and temptation and confronts the threat facing his community, with his faith becoming central to his attempt to make a difference before Christmas.
