The circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings have continued to draw attention following a heartbreaking account from his personal assistant, Babadunni, who recounted their unsuccessful efforts to secure medical treatment for the singer.

According to Babadunni, what began as an ordinary moment reportedly took a troubling turn when Toluwanisings suddenly slumped, leaving those around him scrambling to find medical assistance.

The personal assistant explained that they immediately began searching for a hospital where the singer could receive the urgent attention he needed. However, their attempt to secure treatment reportedly became a distressing experience, as they encountered difficulties at several medical facilities.

Recounting the ordeal, Babadunni disclosed that they visited between seven and eight hospitals while desperately seeking help for the gospel artiste. Despite their efforts, they were reportedly unable to secure the medical attention they were hoping for at some of the facilities they approached.

Babadunni explained that the responses they received from the hospitals varied. According to the account, some facilities reportedly said doctors were on strike, while others allegedly turned the singer away.

The experience, as described by the personal assistant, paints a picture of a desperate search for medical assistance during a critical moment. With Toluwanisings in need of urgent attention, the repeated attempts to find a facility willing and able to treat him reportedly left those accompanying him struggling to get the help they sought.

Babadunni also recounted how they continued trying despite the challenges they encountered. However, their efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful, as Toluwanisings died following the incident.

Sharing his account of what happened, Babadunni said:

“He was very fine and in perfect condition. He just slumped. He was rushed to different hospitals in Ibadan but was rejected. One of the hospitals said their doctors were on strike. We took him to about seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan but God said it was his time. We prayed and prayed but God said it was his time.”

The account has brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the singer’s final moments, particularly the reported difficulties encountered while seeking medical care.

The claim that several hospitals were visited before the singer’s death is particularly troubling. However, the specific circumstances at each facility, including the reasons treatment was reportedly unavailable or refused, would need to be independently established.

Toluwanisings’ d£@th represents a painful loss for those who knew him personally and for listeners who appreciated his gospel music. As details of the incident emerge through accounts from people close to him, the focus remains on understanding what happened during the search for medical assistance.

Toluwanisings’ tragic story has once again raised serious questions about the state of Nigeria’s healthcare system and the challenges patients face when seeking urgent medical attention. If the account of his personal assistant is accurate, the reported difficulties they encountered while searching for treatment highlight the potentially devastating consequences of gaps in emergency healthcare delivery.

No one should have to visit multiple hospitals in a desperate attempt to save a loved one without finding the care they need. While doctors’ strikes, inadequate facilities and other systemic challenges continue to put pressure on the health sector, the ultimate cost can be borne by patients and their families. Toluwanisings’ death is a painful reminder of the urgent need for meaningful healthcare reforms, better-equipped hospitals and a system that prioritises saving lives, regardless of the circumstances.
