Nigerian rapper Phenom has recounted how a painful heartbreak sent his life in a completely different direction, leading him into a period of s+xual excess that lasted for two years before he eventually embraced Christianity and changed his ways.
According to the rapper, the experience left him sleeping with as many as 200 women in a year. What began as a response to emotional pain eventually became a lifestyle that brought him considerable anxiety, particularly over his sexual health.
Phenom explained that the heartbreak was the turning point that pushed him into the behaviour.
“It was one heartbreak, actually, that made me just go crazy. It was 200 girls in a year at the time. So I did that for like two years straight,” he said.
Despite the number of women he was involved with, the rapper said he struggled to find peace of mind. He constantly worried that he might have contracted HIV, to the point where even an ordinary sneeze could trigger fear that something was wrong with his health.
“It was so bad. I didn’t even have peace of mind. I felt like I had HIV, man. If I should sneeze, I’ll be like, ‘Hey, I don carry something,’” he recalled.
The consequences of that period extended beyond the anxiety. Phenom said he contracted gonorrhea eight times within two years, describing an experience that became so familiar that he could recognise the symptoms himself.
“In two years, I had gonorrhea eight times. It was crazy. It was so bad that when I go to the pharmacist, I’ll tell them I have gonorrhea. They’ll say, ‘How did you know?’ I could diagnose myself,” he recounted.
His experience eventually led him to reconsider the way he was living. Phenom said a conversation with someone who challenged him to give up certain habits became an important step towards a different life.
The advice was simple: achieving certain things required him to let go of others. That message eventually introduced him to Christianity and encouraged him to make changes that went beyond his sexual behaviour.
“But I met somebody that told me, like, ‘Oh, for you to attain certain things, you need to let go of certain things.’ And I got introduced to God,” he said.
One of the biggest changes he made was committing to celibacy. Phenom revealed that he abstained from s+x for approximately 10 years before marrying in 2026.
He also said that he and his wife did not have s+x before their wedding, choosing to wait until they were officially married.
“I also went celibate for like 10 years before I got married. And I got married this year as well. So, I didn’t have s+x with my wife until our wedding night,” he stated.
For Phenom, the transformation was about more than simply staying away from sex. He explained that his relationship with God deepened and that the changes he made affected other parts of his life as well.
His account traces a journey from emotional heartbreak and a period of risky s+xual behaviour to a commitment to celibacy and marriage. Looking back, the rapper's experience highlights how a difficult personal experience can influence someone's choices and how a change in beliefs can lead them towards a different path.
