NAF Releases Names Of 25 Victims Killed In Ondo Aircraft Crash

The Nigerian Air Force has released the names of the 25 people who died in the aircraft crash that occurred in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday.


The deceased comprised five crew members and 20 passengers, according to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.


The Nigerian Air Force said the aircraft was carrying out a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the crash occurred in Igbokoda.


Following the incident, search-and-rescue operations were activated, with relevant authorities and emergency agencies mobilised to locate the aircraft and account for everyone on board.


The NAF subsequently confirmed that none of the 25 occupants survived the crash.


Air Force Mourns Victims


Reacting to the incident, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, expressed condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives.


Aneke described the crash as a deeply painful incident for the Nigerian Air Force and the country.


He also assured the bereaved families that the Service would provide its full support during the period of mourning.


The Chief of the Air Staff further directed that a comprehensive investigation be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.


The Nigerian Air Force said it would continue to provide timely and verified information as the investigation progresses.


The Service also appealed to members of the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information concerning the incident.


The NAF urged the public to respect the privacy and dignity of the families of those who died in the crash.


Condolence Register Opened


Ejodame also disclosed that a condolence register had been opened at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja.


According to the NAF, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of security agencies and other sympathisers are expected to use the register to pay their respects to the victims.


The release of the names follows the completion of efforts to account for the occupants of the aircraft.


The list comprises military personnel who were part of the aircraft’s crew and passengers on the routine mission.

The Nigerian Air Force said the investigation into the crash would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, while further verified information would be released as the process continues.
