Nollywood has consistently explored the complexities of family relationships through emotionally charged storytelling, and Abiagba, a new production presented by Eleda TV, continues in that tradition.
Directed around themes of betrayal, abandonment, family conflict and psychological trauma, the film features notable actors including Odunlade Adekola, Allwell Ademola and Kola Ajeyemi.
Abiagba takes viewers into the painful consequences of broken family relationships, examining how unresolved issues from one generation can eventually affect another.
The story centres on a young woman whose childhood is shaped by separation from her mother, leaving her to be raised by her father. As an adult, she tries to establish a stable life, only for everything to collapse after discovering that her husband has become involved in an affair with her estranged mother.
Unable to cope with the devastating betrayal, she leaves in search of a new beginning. However, her attempt to escape the turmoil proves unsuccessful when her father intervenes and tries to bring the fractured family back together.
His efforts instead reopen old wounds and expose deeply buried secrets, setting the stage for further conflict.
The performances are among the film’s strongest elements. Odunlade Adekola brings authority and emotional depth to his role, while Allwell Ademola and Kola Ajeyemi effectively portray characters struggling with difficult choices, complicated loyalties and emotional pressure.
The film’s dialogue moves between intense confrontations and quieter moments that explore trust, forgiveness and family boundaries.
Although some parts of the story move quickly through its numerous plot developments, the emotional weight of the conflicts keeps the narrative engaging.
Abiagba ultimately offers a dark examination of family dysfunction and the difficult journey towards forgiveness. Rather than providing an easy resolution, the film highlights how complicated healing can become when betrayal comes from those closest to us.
With strong performances and a storyline built around emotional conflict, Abiagba is likely to appeal to viewers who enjoy intense Nollywood
