Nigerian singer Victor AD has apologised to Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage over a collaboration that never made it to the public, acknowledging the time and effort she invested in the unreleased remix of his hit song, ‘Wetin We Gain’.
The singer's apology comes years after Tiwa recorded a verse for the proposed remix, which was never officially released. Despite her contribution to the project, fans never got the chance to hear the two artistes on the same track.
Victor AD has now addressed the situation, admitting that he should have taken responsibility for what happened much earlier. He also made it clear that, regardless of the reasons behind the project's failure, Tiwa's contribution deserved recognition and appreciation.
In his apology, the singer wrote:
“I should have done this a long time ago, but it’s never too late to take accountability for my actions. I’m truly sorry about how things turned out.
Thank you, Mama, for blessing my song ‘Wetin We Gain’ with a verse. Unfortunately, the remix never saw the light of day.
I could go on and on explaining why it didn’t happen, but none of those explanations matter more than the genuine effort, love, and creativity you poured into making the song beautiful.”
With the message, Victor AD acknowledged that explaining why the remix was abandoned would not change the fact that Tiwa had given her time and talent to the project.
Rather than focus on the circumstances that prevented the song from being released, he chose to recognise her effort and apologise for the outcome. His message also reflected his appreciation for the singer, whom he addressed as Mama.
For Tiwa Savage, the collaboration would have been another opportunity to work with a fellow Nigerian artiste on a song that had already established itself as one of Victor AD's biggest records. However, the planned remix never reached listeners, leaving the collaboration unreleased.
Tiwa has since responded to Victor AD's apology, expressing appreciation for his message and taking a forgiving approach to the situation.
In her response, she wrote:
“I appreciate this. God knows the reason for everything. All love ❤️🙏🏾”
Her reply was brief, but she made it clear that she appreciated the apology and held no public grudge over the matter.
The original ‘Wetin We Gain’ played a major role in bringing Victor AD wider recognition when it was released in 2018. The song connected with listeners through its message about the importance of making progress and enjoying the rewards of one's efforts.
A remix featuring Tiwa Savage could have brought a different sound to the record, combining Victor AD's style with the established presence of one of Afrobeats' leading female artistes. However, the project remained unreleased.
Victor AD's apology has now brought attention back to the collaboration and, more importantly, acknowledged Tiwa's contribution to a song that never reached its intended audience.
