Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has opened up about how his perception of YouTube movies has changed, admitting that he previously looked down on productions released on the video-sharing platform.

The actor made the revelation in a post on X, where he humorously acknowledged the importance of YouTube films to his career and financial well-being.

Reflecting on his earlier attitude towards the productions, Timini wrote, “Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger go don kpai me by now.”

His comment suggests that the opportunities available through YouTube have become valuable to him, particularly in an entertainment industry where acting jobs and income can be unpredictable.

YouTube has increasingly become an important distribution platform for Nollywood filmmakers, providing an alternative to traditional cinema releases and television broadcasting.

The platform allows producers to reach audiences directly, while actors can feature in projects that may attract substantial viewership online.

For performers, such productions can provide additional opportunities to remain active, build their audience and earn money outside conventional film distribution channels.

Timini has established himself as a recognised face in the Nigerian entertainment industry through his work in television and cinema. He began his acting career in 2010 when he appeared in the popular television soap opera Tinsel.

His subsequent role in MTV Shuga helped raise his profile, introducing him to a wider audience and contributing to his growth as an actor.

Over the years, he has appeared in several Nigerian films, including Elevator Baby, Breaded Life, Introducing the Kuju’s, Dinner at My Place and A Tribe Called Judah. These projects have helped him build a career across different genres and production formats.

Despite his achievements, Timini has also spoken about experiences that could have taken his career in a different direction.

In 2025, the actor disclosed that he had tried to secure a place in the eighth edition of the Big Brother Africa reality television show but was unsuccessful.

According to his account, he progressed to the final stage of the selection process before being dropped at the last minute. Although the rejection was disappointing, he later secured a role in MTV Shuga, an opportunity that proved significant in shaping his acting journey.

His latest remarks about YouTube movies offer another glimpse into how his professional outlook has evolved. What he once regarded as a less desirable avenue has become a useful part of navigating the entertainment business.

The development also reflects the changing structure of Nollywood, where digital platforms have created new routes for filmmakers and performers to connect with viewers.

As audiences increasingly consume films online, YouTube productions continue to provide opportunities for actors to explore different roles and reach viewers beyond traditional cinema audiences.

Timini’s candid admission highlights the importance of remaining open to opportunities in an industry where career paths can change unexpectedly.
