Reality TV personality Mercy Eke has expressed frustration after discovering that an item she regularly purchases had become significantly more expensive.

The former Big Brother Naija winner shared her experience on social media, suggesting that her celebrity status may have influenced the sudden increase in the price of the product.

According to Mercy, she was familiar with the usual cost of the item because it was something she bought regularly. However, she was surprised when she was informed that the price had increased by 100 per cent.

What appeared to upset the reality star even more was the response she received when she questioned the seller about the new price.

Mercy said she found it difficult to understand why an item she had consistently purchased would suddenly cost twice as much. She jokingly linked the experience to the possible disadvantages that come with being a recognisable public figure.

Sharing her reaction online, the reality star wrote, “Seems like fame comes with automatic price increment cause I don’t understand how something i buy on a regular basic automatically had 100% increment and she has the audacity to say NA YOU NAH! Biko, who i be?”

Her comment generated attention because of the humorous way she addressed what appeared to be an everyday shopping experience.

Mercy’s complaint also highlights one of the less-discussed experiences celebrities can encounter in their daily lives.

While fame often comes with increased visibility, opportunities and financial rewards, public figures may also face situations where their celebrity status changes how people interact with them.

For Mercy, the unexpected price hike appeared to raise questions about whether she was being charged more simply because she was a familiar face.

The reality star has remained one of the prominent personalities to emerge from the Nigerian reality television scene. Since gaining widespread recognition, she has built a strong presence across social media and maintained a connection with her large fan base.

Her latest post, however, focused on a much simpler issue: the frustration of paying more for something she believed should have remained at its usual price.

Rather than keeping the experience private, Mercy chose to share her reaction with her followers, turning an ordinary shopping complaint into a light-hearted conversation about the possible realities of fame.
