Dr. Becky Enenche, wife of Pastor Paul Enenche, the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has urged married men to be mindful of how they relate to female secretaries, stressing the need to protect their marriages by maintaining appropriate boundaries at work.
In a video, she spoke about the importance of knowing where to draw the line in professional relationships, particularly when a married man works closely with a woman who is not his wife. She noted that although women can perform secretarial duties effectively, men must be careful not to allow workplace familiarity to become excessive.
“I know women can make very efficient secretaries, but wisdom is profitable to direct,” she said.
Becky also pointed to the frequency of communication as something married men should pay attention to. According to her, when a man begins receiving more messages from his secretary than from his wife, it is worth examining the situation rather than ignoring it.
“By the time somebody's text messages are entering your phone more frequently than your wife's, query, query, query.”
Her advice centred on taking deliberate steps to protect one's marriage instead of waiting until a situation becomes difficult to manage. She encouraged men to be intentional about their interactions with female colleagues and to recognise when a relationship may be taking up too much personal space.
She said:
“Make efforts to protect yourself. Let it be strategic and well calculated. I know that the Lord will help us in the name of Jesus Christ.”
She further stressed that married men should not allow another woman to occupy the position that belongs to their wives, highlighting the importance of preserving the connection and commitment within marriage.
“Please, don't let anybody take the place of your wife", she noted.
Becky also addressed the practice of female secretaries preparing tea or coffee for their male bosses. While making tea may appear to be a simple office task, she questioned the amount of time spent on such arrangements and suggested that men should consider whether they are necessary.
“That person who comes to the office, as God's servant said, to cook tea for you. You boil water and infuse it with tea bags, or you boil water to make coffee.
“But when we talk about cooking tea, you're spending more time than necessary with that person.”
She returned to the issue of professional boundaries in her concluding advice, specifically addressing married men whose secretaries are women.
“If your secretary is a woman, just ensure you have boundaries and don't let her cook your tea", she said.
Her message focused on the need for married men to be conscious of their conduct at work and ensure that professional relationships do not interfere with their commitments at home. She encouraged them to make choices that protect their marriages and prevent unnecessary closeness from creating problems in their personal lives.
