Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has expressed support for more remakes of classic Mount Zion films following his experience watching Agbara Nla: The Return.

The actor recently met veteran Christian filmmaker Mike Bamiloye, his wife and other members of the Bamiloye family.

Sharing photographs from the meeting, Daniel described the encounter as a meaningful experience that went beyond an ordinary meeting.

He reflected on his university days at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, when Mount Zion Faith Ministries and its Christian productions were already well known among students and young people.

According to the actor, meeting Mike Bamiloye years after hearing about his work gave him a sense of fulfilment. He described the encounter as an opportunity to connect with people whose work had influenced Christian drama and filmmaking across generations.

Daniel Etim also praised Agbara Nla: The Return, describing the production as a powerful film that retains the spiritual message associated with the original while presenting the story to a modern audience.

He commended the performances, writing and overall storytelling, saying the remake had successfully captured the revival-focused spirit of the original production.

The actor subsequently called for Mount Zion to revisit more of its older titles, encouraging filmmakers associated with the ministry to bring other classics back to the screen.

Agbara Nla: The Return is a new version of the 1993 Christian film Agbara Nla, which was originally created by Mike Bamiloye. The story centres on a family confronted by a conflict between traditional spiritual practices and the Christian faith.

The new production was directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye, while Mike Bamiloye returned to reprise his role from the original movie.

The remake arrived in Nigerian cinemas on October 1, 2026, and has recorded a strong opening at the box office.

Data from FilmOne, as reported by Nairametrics, showed that the movie generated N170.59 million from 28,468 admissions between October 2 and October 4.

The reported figure was made up of approximately N71.4 million earned from preview screenings and another N99.15 million generated during the first three days of its general cinema release.

Its early performance has placed Agbara Nla: The Return among the strongest Nollywood openings recorded outside the traditional December blockbuster season.

The film has also achieved a notable milestone within Nigeria's faith-based movie category, emerging as the biggest opening for a faith-based production in the country's cinema market.

For Daniel Etim, the success of the remake demonstrates that older Nigerian stories can still connect with contemporary audiences when they are presented with updated production standards while retaining the essence of the original.

His call for additional Mount Zion remakes could therefore encourage renewed interest in some of the ministry's older productions and introduce them to viewers who were not familiar with the films when they were first released.
