Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has spoken about a prophecy he received before his arrest and imprisonment, recalling how he was told that he would become a great man but would first experience a painful period in his life.
The Yoruba actor spoke about the experience on October 10, 2026, during a gathering at the residence of Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho to celebrate his birthday. Veteran broadcaster Kolo Olootu was also present at the gathering.
Baba Ijesha explained that the prediction came before the legal troubles that eventually led to his imprisonment. According to him, the person who gave the prophecy said he would achieve greatness, but a major calamity would happen first and leave him shedding tears.
Recounting what he was told, the actor said:
“Before I went to prison, someone saw a revelation about me that I'll be a great man, but a huge calamity will befall me that'll make me shed lots of tears before the prophecy will eventually come to pass. It was after that I went to prison.”
His account comes after a difficult period in his life that began with allegations of s%xual offences involving a minor. In July 2022, a Lagos State High Court convicted him of s%xual ass.ault and indecent treatment of a child and sentenced him to prison.
The case attracted considerable public attention, with the actor's conviction and subsequent legal proceedings becoming a major part of his personal story. He was released from prison in November 2025 after completing his sentence, according to the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
Baba Ijesha's latest account focuses on how he now connects the prophecy he received with the events that followed. However, his statement about the prediction reflects his personal recollection; it does not establish that the events were foretold or that a future promise of greatness will necessarily come to pass.
His appearance at Sunday Igboho's birthday gathering also brought attention to the relationship between the two men. During the same gathering, Baba Ijesha spoke about the support he received from Igboho while he was in prison, including financial assistance and help arranging telephone calls.
For Baba Ijesha, the prophecy remains part of how he describes the difficult chapter he experienced before his release and his efforts to move forward with his life.
