Nollywood producer Martins Onyebuchi Onyemobi has offered an insight into what it is like working with veteran actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, describing him as a performer whose creativity and energy can take a movie in unexpected directions.

Onyemobi explained that getting the best from the veteran actor requires firm direction. According to him, Osuofia is capable of bringing so much to a script that a producer or director must ensure his creativity remains focused on the story being told.

He noted that once the actor becomes comfortable with a script and settles into his role, he can become extremely expressive. Rather than simply delivering the lines written for him, Osuofia may expand scenes through his own ideas and personality.

For Onyemobi, this is not necessarily a weakness but one of the qualities that has made the veteran such a memorable presence in Nigerian cinema.

The challenge, he suggested, is ensuring that the actor’s natural comic energy works in favour of the production rather than taking the storyline away from its intended direction.

The producer said Osuofia gives himself completely to any project he accepts. Once the actor agrees to participate in a movie, he reportedly approaches the work with considerable commitment and brings all his experience and performance ability to the set.

Onyemobi further illustrated the actor’s tendency to stretch a storyline with a humorous example. He explained that a production originally planned in two parts could potentially become much longer if Osuofia is allowed to freely explore his ideas and improvisations.

His comments highlight the balance filmmakers sometimes have to maintain when working with highly experienced performers. While strict adherence to a script can be important for keeping a production organised, an actor’s ability to improvise and contribute creatively can also add unexpected value to a project.

Osuofia has remained one of Nollywood’s recognisable comic actors, with his distinctive delivery and expressive performances helping establish his place in the industry.

His ability to transform ordinary scenes into memorable moments has contributed to his popularity among movie audiences.

Onyemobi’s description also suggests that the actor’s reputation for spontaneity is closely connected to his approach to filmmaking. Rather than holding back once he becomes involved in a project, Osuofia appears to throw himself fully into the performance.

For the producer, the key is therefore not limiting the actor’s talent but directing it effectively. With the right guidance, Onyemobi believes Osuofia can channel his considerable energy into producing the best possible result for a movie.

The revelation provides another perspective on the working relationship between producers and established actors, particularly performers whose personalities and creative instincts have become an important part of their appeal.

For Osuofia, that freedom and energy remain central to the style that has made him a familiar figure to Nollywood audiences.
