Nollywood film critic and radio personality Tolu Fagbure has opened up about an encounter he had with actress Adebimpe Oyebade, popularly known as Mo Bimpe, during a film project in 2018.
Fagbure recalled that he was introduced to the actress after someone recommended her for a movie he was working on at the time.
Following the recommendation, he contacted Oyebade and forwarded the screenplay to her for consideration.
According to the critic, he expected the actress to review the material and respond, but he claimed that several days passed without receiving any feedback. After three days, he decided to contact her to find out why she had not responded.
Fagbure said Oyebade apologised and explained that she was occupied on a movie set. He added that she also indicated that he needed to finalise the cast and other aspects of the production.
However, the situation reportedly became tense when Fagbure contacted her again and she asked him to simply explain the storyline verbally because she was still busy with another production.
The film critic said he considered the request inappropriate, particularly because he had already sent the complete script.
He maintained that the actress should have taken time to read the material rather than asking him to narrate it.
Fagbure described his reaction at the time as a confrontation over what he considered a lack of professionalism.
He recalled questioning whether the actress understood who he was and insisting that he was not one of the inexperienced filmmakers she might have assumed him to be.
He said the disagreement did not prevent Oyebade from eventually going through the script. According to him, she later contacted him after reading the screenplay.
Looking back at the incident years later, Fagbure suggested that Oyebade's initial response may have been intentional or possibly an attempt to impress him.
He also reflected on how much the actress's career has developed since the incident, noting that she is now widely known as Adebimpe Oyebade Adedimeji following her marriage to actor Lateef Adedimeji.
Fagbure has remained outspoken about performances and conduct within the Nigerian film industry. In previous public comments, he has discussed several prominent actors, sometimes praising their work while also pointing out areas he believes require improvement.
In May 2026, he described Bimbo Ademoye as a talented actress but raised concerns about discipline within Nollywood.
He has also offered opinions on performers including Wumi Toriola, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham and Mercy Aigbe.
In August, Fagbure recalled once describing Femi Adebayo's acting as “plastic”, before explaining that his perception changed after meeting him and seeing his performances, particularly in the film Jagun Jagun.
He has similarly criticised Eniola Ajao's acting, comments that prompted a public response from the actress.
