Streams Of Joy Responds To Woman’s N1.64m Claim, Says She Never Contacted Church Before Complaint

Streams of Joy International, the church founded by Pastor Jerry Eze, has addressed a woman’s claim that she mistakenly transferred N1,640,200 to the church while trying to send the money to her own Zenith Bank account.

The church said it was not previously contacted by the woman over the alleged transfer and only became aware of her complaint after seeing the video in which she explained what happened.

According to Streams of Joy, there had been no earlier communication from the woman through a phone call, email, direct message or formal complaint before she publicly raised the issue.

The Church wrote:

“We have become aware of this claim through the video circulating online. However, prior to its publication, we had not received any call, email, direct message or formal complaint from the individual..”

The response comes after the woman, identified as Sandra Okpara, explained that the money was transferred by mistake.

In the video, Okpara said she is a single mother of two and a believer who regularly participates in the church’s prayer programme, NSPPD. She said she had attended the service that morning, taken communion and made a transfer as an offering.

She explained that it was only a few hours later, when she wanted to send money to her Zenith Bank account to pay for a voucher, that she realised she had made an erroneous transfer of N1,640,200.

“My name is Sandra Okpara. I am a single mom of two and I believe in God and I've always been praying for God on NSPPD. I did my service this morning, I did my communion and I did my transfer for offering. Two or three hours later I wanted send money to my Zenith account for a voucher. I did an erroneous transfer of N1,640,200. I'm doing this video because I cannot lie. If you know anyone that works at Streams of Joy  International...That money is not for me, it's for people and those people are calling me out.”

Okpara said she decided to speak publicly because, according to her, the money was not intended for the church and she needed help getting it back.

The church, however, said the matter had not been brought directly to its attention before the woman released her video.

Its response therefore centres on the communication gap between the two sides, with Streams of Joy stating that it only became aware of the woman’s claim after the video surfaced.

At this stage, the central issue remains the alleged mistaken transfer of N1,640,200 and the woman’s request concerning the money, while the church has made it clear that it had not received a prior complaint from her before she spoke publicly.
