Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has challenged fellow Afrobeats star Burna Boy to a boxing match, declaring that he is confident of defeating the Grammy-winning singer if they eventually meet in the ring.
The ‘Akpi’ crooner made the challenge during a recent interview with Hip TV, where he maintained that he was ready to put a substantial amount of money behind the proposed fight.
Speed Darlington said he wanted Burna Boy to accept the challenge and face him physically, arguing that the singer’s success and popularity in the music industry would not necessarily translate into an advantage in a boxing match.
“I challenge Burna Boy to fight me. I will drop a huge sum just to fight him. I want to fight him. I will beat him. He’s all hype. He can’t beat me. Just because some people like his music doesn’t mean he can beat me. I am challenging him,” he said.
The singer’s comments have added another chapter to the strained relationship between the two entertainers, which has previously involved public exchanges and controversial allegations.
Speed Darlington has repeatedly spoken about Burna Boy, with some of his comments in the past becoming subjects of public debate and attracting strong reactions from fans of both entertainers.
His latest challenge, however, shifts attention from their musical careers and online exchanges to a possible physical contest.
Speed Darlington Confident Of Victory
While speaking during the interview, Speed Darlington showed no hesitation in expressing his belief that he would emerge victorious if Burna Boy agreed to fight him.
He dismissed the idea that Burna Boy’s fame or the popularity of his music should make him appear physically superior.
For Speed Darlington, the proposed contest would be determined inside the ring rather than by either entertainer’s achievements in music.
His comments suggest that he sees the boxing match as an opportunity to settle their differences in a different setting.
The singer’s call-out also comes months after another entertainer, Portable, made claims about a boxing encounter involving himself and Speed Darlington.
According to the information supplied, Portable alleged in April that Burna Boy rewarded him with N20m after he defeated Speed Darlington in a boxing bout.
The claim added another layer to the ongoing exchanges involving the three entertainers, although the reported payment remains an allegation attributed to Portable.
Burna Boy Yet To Respond
There was no response from Burna Boy contained in the report to Speed Darlington’s latest challenge.
The Grammy-winning singer has remained one of the biggest names in African music, while Speed Darlington has developed a reputation for his outspoken personality, unconventional style and controversial public statements.
The proposed fight would therefore bring together two entertainers with very different public personas.
Speed Darlington’s challenge also comes against the backdrop of previous controversy involving comments he made about Burna Boy and American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The ‘Akpi’ singer had previously made claims suggesting that Burna Boy had an illicit relationship with Diddy in exchange for his Grammy award. Those allegations generated controversy and contributed to tensions between the two entertainers.
The claims have not been established as fact, and they remain part of the history of their public exchanges.
Another Chapter In Their Feud
Over time, the relationship between Speed Darlington and Burna Boy has attracted public attention because of the repeated comments and controversies involving both entertainers.
With his latest statement, Speed Darlington appears determined to take the confrontation beyond words, openly asking Burna Boy to agree to a boxing match.
He has also made it clear that he is willing to commit a significant amount of money to the proposed contest, while maintaining that he would emerge as the winner.
Whether Burna Boy will respond to the challenge or entertain the possibility of stepping into the ring remains unknown.
For now, Speed Darlington’s comments have once again placed their long-running public exchanges in the spotlight, with the singer insisting that his confidence is based on what he believes he can accomplish physically rather than on musical popularity.
If Burna Boy were to accept the challenge, the proposed contest would mark a very different form of confrontation between the two entertainers, moving their rivalry from public statements into the boxing ring.
