Sharon Adeleke, sister of Afrobeats star Davido and daughter of billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, has offered insight into the financial realities of children born into wealthy families.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Moraya Show, Sharon addressed the popular perception that children from rich families, often referred to as ‘Nepo babies’ in Nigeria, have unlimited access to their parents’ money.
According to her, while children of billionaires and millionaires may enjoy privileges that are not available to the average person, that does not necessarily mean they have unrestricted access to cash.
Sharon explained that wealthy parents often provide their children with opportunities and assets such as education, land and properties, but expect them to make use of those resources to build their own financial independence.
“A lot of Nepo babies don’t really have access to cash the way you guys make it seem. They have more than the average person, but they are always on a budget. Your school fees are paid, you are given land and properties, but you have to make use of them,” she said.
Sharon Discusses Life As A ‘Nepo Baby’
The term ‘Nepo baby’ has become increasingly common in conversations about people who benefit from having wealthy or influential parents.
While the expression is often associated with privilege and easier access to opportunities, Sharon suggested that the financial arrangement within some wealthy families may be different from what outsiders imagine.
She acknowledged that children from such backgrounds generally have access to more resources than the average person, but stressed that receiving assets does not necessarily mean having large amounts of spending money available at all times.
Her comments offer a glimpse into how financial responsibilities can be handled within wealthy families, particularly when parents want their children to become financially productive rather than depend entirely on family wealth.
Rather than simply handing over unlimited cash, parents may provide assets that can serve as investments or foundations for future businesses and income.
Sharon Holds Weekly Finance Meetings With Davido
Beyond discussing the financial experiences of wealthy families, Sharon also revealed that she regularly reviews her brother Davido’s finances with him.
The business-minded family member disclosed that she and the singer hold a finance meeting every week to monitor his spending and ensure he has a clear understanding of how his money is being used.
“Me and Davido would sit and have a finance meeting every week because I think it is important for him to know how his money is being spent,” she said.
The revelation highlights Sharon’s role in helping her brother keep track of his financial activities, particularly given the singer’s high-profile lifestyle and the large-scale purchases associated with his career.
Sharon Advises Davido On Luxury Cars
Sharon also disclosed that she has advised Davido to reduce his spending on luxury cars.
The singer is known for his interest in expensive automobiles, and Sharon’s comments suggest that she has encouraged him to consider his spending habits when making major purchases.
Her advice comes amid Davido’s recent disclosure about another major luxury car acquisition.
The singer recently revealed during a livestream with streamer Davrel that he paid $11m for a custom-made Bugatti. According to the information he shared, the vehicle is expected to be delivered to him in Nigeria.
The reported purchase has drawn attention because of its enormous price tag and the singer’s history of owning high-end vehicles.
Sharon’s comments about managing Davido’s finances therefore provide another perspective on the spending decisions that come with his level of wealth and lifestyle.
While the singer continues to make significant investments in luxury items, his sister appears to be encouraging greater attention to financial planning and monitoring.
Her remarks also broaden the conversation around wealthy families and the expectations placed on children who grow up with significant financial advantages.
For Sharon, having wealthy parents may provide access to education, properties and other valuable resources, but she believes those benefits do not automatically translate into unlimited cash.
At the same time, her weekly financial meetings with Davido show that even individuals with substantial earnings may need to closely monitor their spending and make deliberate decisions about how their money is used.
