Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Nollywood actresses Eucharia Anunobi and Rachael Okonkwo to serve in different capacities within the state government.
The appointments were included in a list of 101 new appointments approved by the governor and announced by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
According to the announcement, the new appointments comprise seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.
The move brings the two popular actresses into public service, with each receiving responsibilities connected to different areas of government.
Rachael Okonkwo, widely recognised by her screen name Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, has been named Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development.
The actress, whose full name is Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo, is one of the familiar faces in the Nigerian film industry and gained significant recognition through her performances in the popular Nkoli Nwa Nsukka movie series.
An indigene of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Okonkwo has maintained a strong connection with the state while building her career in Nollywood.
In her new government role, she is expected to contribute to initiatives involving the film sector and wider creative industry.
Her appointment places an entertainment industry practitioner in a position where she can potentially bring her experience from Nollywood into discussions and programmes concerning the sector.
Veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was also given a government appointment. She has been named Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for the Enugu-North Zone.
Anunobi is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry who became widely known during the 1990s. Over the years, she has appeared in numerous Nollywood productions and established herself as one of the industry's recognisable actresses.
Beyond acting, Anunobi later became an evangelist, expanding her public activities beyond the entertainment industry.
Her new assignment focuses on women mobilisation in Enugu-North, giving her a role that involves working around issues concerning women and their participation in community and political activities within the zone.
The appointments have attracted attention because both women are established figures in the entertainment industry, while their new responsibilities move them into government service.
Their inclusion among the governor's latest appointees also reflects the continued movement of Nigerian entertainers into public and community-oriented roles.
For Okonkwo, the appointment is directly connected to the creative sector in which she has built her career, while Anunobi's assignment places her in a role centred on women mobilisation.
The two actresses will now combine their public profiles and professional experiences with their respective responsibilities under the Enugu State Government.
