Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has demanded a DNA test for the children he shares with his estranged partner, actress Ashabi Simple, amid a growing disagreement over his responsibility towards them.
The dispute between the former partners recently became public after messages and voice notes surfaced, revealing a disagreement over child support and the care of their children.
Portable reportedly questioned the paternity of the children during the exchange, insisting that he wanted scientific confirmation before accepting full responsibility for them.
The singer expressed doubts about Ashabi’s activities during their relationship and questioned whether physical resemblance was enough to establish that he was the biological father of the children.
“I don’t trust you. Even when you were in my house, you hardly sleep at home for five days. How am I sure these children are mine even if they look like me?” Portable said.
He subsequently made it clear that he did not want to rely on appearance or resemblance in determining paternity.
“I don’t fall for such. Let us take them to hospital for proper DNA,” he added.
Portable’s demand came amid what appeared to be a conversation about his financial responsibilities towards the children. While Ashabi appeared to urge him to take responsibility, the singer maintained that he wanted the paternity issue settled through a DNA test.
The disagreement has since spilled onto social media, with Ashabi responding to the singer’s position and addressing the issue of child support.
In a social media post, the actress alleged that Portable had told her to take their children to another woman to care for them, while also claiming that he said he could not provide child support.
Ashabi’s post suggested that the disagreement was not simply about their relationship but also about the financial responsibilities associated with raising their children.
She also indicated that she was not currently interested in reconciling with Portable, although she maintained that the singer would eventually have to fulfil his responsibilities towards the children.
“Him: bring the kids another woman to take care of them; here I no fit send any child support,” she wrote.
Ashabi then appeared to dismiss Portable’s public stance, describing him as an “Alagbara online” while suggesting that she was not concerned about his behaviour.
She added that she had respected members of his family, which she said was why she reached out to him directly.
“I don respect your people already, na why I chat you,” she wrote.
Ashabi further suggested that she believed Portable was becoming increasingly angry during the disagreement.
“I don see say enu wan Ka e,” she added.
The actress ended the post with a sarcastic question about whether she should resort to spiritual means against the singer.
“Make I use juju on finished man meh?” she wrote.
The public exchange has placed the former couple’s disagreement under renewed attention, particularly because the issue of child support has now become connected to Portable’s demand for DNA testing.
Rather than accepting responsibility based on the children’s resemblance to him, Portable has insisted that their paternity should first be established through a medical test.
Ashabi, on the other hand, has used her social media response to accuse the singer of attempting to avoid financial responsibility for the children.
The two have previously been publicly linked and share children, although their relationship has since become strained. Their latest exchange shows that disagreements surrounding their relationship have extended into questions about parenting and financial obligations.
For now, Portable’s demand for a DNA test remains at the centre of the dispute, while Ashabi continues to insist that the singer should take responsibility for the children.
The claims made by both parties form part of an ongoing public disagreement, and the paternity issue has not been independently established through a disclosed DNA test.
