A 35-year-old woman, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, has d!ed in Kaduna after an alleged confrontation with her boyfriend, Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, who is now in police custody.

The Kaduna State Police Command said Jatau was arrested following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rebecca’s d£@th.

The case came to the attention of the police on September 5, when Rebecca’s body was discovered along Mai Angwa Street in the Romi area of Kaduna. According to the police, cotton wool was found stuffed in her nose when she was discovered

.

Officers from the Romi Outstation responded to the report and took the woman to St. Gerald Hospital in Kakuri. A medical doctor at the hospital examined her and confirmed that she was already d£@d.

Her remains were subsequently taken to the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to help determine the exact cause and circumstances of her death.

As detectives began looking into the case, investigators reportedly established that Jatau was the last person known to have contacted Rebecca before she died. Police said he had asked her to meet him at Ebano Joint in Romi.

That information led investigators to begin searching for him. He was eventually located and arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.

During questioning, the police said the suspect gave investigators an account of what happened between him and Rebecca. He allegedly admitted that the two had an argument inside his room after he received a phone call from another woman.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical fight, which the suspect claimed resulted in Rebecca’s death.

Police further alleged that Jatau admitted moving Rebecca’s body away from the room and leaving it in an open field close to his residence. Investigators believe this was an attempt to conceal the incident and make it difficult to trace the circumstances surrounding her death.

The police have not said what exactly caused Rebecca’s death, as investigations are still ongoing and the outcome of the autopsy is expected to provide further information.

Confirming the arrest, Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said the suspect remains in custody while detectives continue their investigation.

"The suspect is currently in Police custody, and the case is being investigated and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation", he said.

For now, Jatau remains a suspect and has not been convicted of the alleged offence. The police are expected to present him before a court after completing their investigation.

The circumstances surrounding Rebecca’s final moments, including what happened during the reported confrontation and how she d!ed, are expected to form part of the evidence gathered by investigators as the case progresses.
