Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has paid tribute to his late friend and colleague, Olu Jacobs, describing him as a brother who fought gallantly until the end.
Edochie shared his tribute in a video posted online, where he reflected on Jacobs’ personality, career and the relationship they shared over the years.
The veteran actor described Jacobs as a humorous and peaceful colleague who lived a quiet life away from unnecessary attention.
According to Edochie, Jacobs created a private life that was largely known only to himself, his wife, Joke Silva, and those within his close circle.
Edochie Remembers Jacobs As A Fighter
While mourning his colleague, Edochie said Jacobs fought like a soldier until his death.
“Olu, my brother, he fought like a man. He fought like the soldier I have always known him to be. Rest in peace,” he said.
Edochie’s description reflected his longstanding regard for Jacobs, whom he considered not only a colleague but also a brother.
He also spoke about Jacobs’ sense of humour, describing him as someone who brought a peaceful presence to his interactions with others.
“He was a humorous personality and a peaceful colleague. He was very humorous; he created a life known only to him, Joke, and me,” Edochie said.
Message To Joke Silva
Edochie also directed part of his tribute to Jacobs’ wife, actress Joke Silva, praising her for standing by her husband.
He acknowledged the difficult period she had experienced while caring for Jacobs and commiserated with her over the loss.
“Joke, I commiserate with you over what you’ve been dealing with for the past six years,” he said.
The actor urged Silva to take comfort in the life her husband lived and encouraged her to celebrate his legacy despite his passing.
“Joke, you did your best; though Olu has gone, be glad and celebrate Olu’s life,” he added.
His message highlighted Silva’s role in Jacobs’ life and acknowledged the years she spent standing by him.
Edochie Recalls Jacobs’ Place Among Veterans
The veteran actor also reflected on the passing of some of his senior colleagues in the Nigerian film industry.
He noted that Jacobs was the only one among his senior colleagues who lived beyond the age of 80.
“Of all my senior colleagues who have gone, Olu was the only one who got beyond 80. If God says it’s time, then it’s time,” Edochie said.
He accepted Jacobs’ death as part of life while remembering the remarkable place the late actor occupied among their generation of entertainers.
Wants Jacobs’ Child To Continue Acting
Edochie also expressed a wish for one of Jacobs’ children to follow in their father’s footsteps by taking up acting.
He said such a move would help preserve the memory of Jacobs and remind people of the impact he had on the Nigerian film industry.
“My only prayer is that one of Olu’s children takes to acting, so whenever we look at him, we will remember what Olu meant to all of us,” he said.
Edochie described Jacobs as their “movie senior” and said the late actor treated everyone he interacted with in that manner.
“Olu was our movie senior, and he treated everybody he interacted with that way,” he added.
‘There Is A Possibility We Will Meet Again’
Edochie concluded his tribute with a reflection on death and the possibility of meeting Jacobs again.
He urged Silva to remember Jacobs’ words and encouraged her to take heart during the difficult period.
“Joke, I want you to remember Olu’s words, and take heart. Olu, if it’s true that people recognise themselves after death, then there is a possibility we will meet again,” he said.
Jacobs’ death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, who confirmed that the veteran actor died on September 16, 2026.
His death marked the loss of one of Nollywood’s respected veteran actors, with tributes continuing to come from colleagues and admirers who remember his contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
For Edochie, Jacobs’ passing is not only the loss of a colleague but the departure of a brother whose career and personality left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
