Toyin Abraham's blockbuster comedy-drama Oversabi Aunty is about to reach an even wider audience, with the film confirmed for a digital release on both Netflix and Kava TV this October, following a theatrical run that pulled in over a billion naira at the Nigerian box office.

The milestone is a significant one for Abraham, who stepped behind the camera for the very first time to direct the project. That debut effort didn't just perform well; it made history, becoming the first directorial debut in Nigerian cinema to cross the billion-naira mark at the box office.

Now, with the film heading to streaming, audiences beyond cinema-goers will get the chance to see what made it such a hit.

At the center of the story is Toun, an usher at her local church whose relentless need to insert herself into other people's business turns her into something of a household menace.

Her habit of dishing out unwanted advice and moralizing over everyone around her doesn't just create friction, it eventually plunges her entire family into turmoil.

Things come to a head during a major family wedding introduction, a event that spirals into chaos largely because Toun simply can't help herself. What unfolds is a mix of comedy and emotional wreckage that forms the backbone of the film's plot.

Beyond the humor, the movie also leans into cultural celebration, blending Yoruba and Igbo wedding customs into its storytelling in a way that highlights unity even as domestic drama plays out around it.

That cultural texture is brought to life by a strong ensemble cast, with Toyin Abraham leading alongside Mike Ezuruonye, Eniola Adeoluwa, Jemima Osunde, Tana Adelana, Efe Irele, and Queen Nwokoye, each contributing to the film's blend of laughter and tension.

Streaming will officially begin on October 2nd, giving fans two platforms to choose from: Netflix, for a global audience, and Kava TV, a platform increasingly associated with Nollywood content reaching viewers at home and in the diaspora.

For those who missed it in cinemas or simply want to revisit the story, the digital rollout offers an easy way to catch up on a film that has already made a mark in Nigerian film history.

With its combination of sharp comedy, family drama, and rich cultural storytelling, Oversabi Aunty adds to a growing list of Nollywood titles finding new life and new audiences through streaming, further cementing the industry's expanding reach beyond local theatres.
