Veteran Nigerian comedian and actor Okechukwu Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has celebrated a major milestone in his marriage as he and his wife, Ezinne, mark 25 years together.
The entertainer commemorated the silver jubilee anniversary by sharing a video collage documenting memorable moments from their years together. The collection featured cherished memories of the couple alongside their three children, offering fans a glimpse into their journey as a family.
Reflecting on their relationship, Okey Bakassi revealed that his love story with Ezinne began decades before they eventually became husband and wife.
The actor disclosed that he first met his wife in 1988, when they were younger. According to him, their relationship started with a few love letters before they gradually developed a friendship.
However, their plans for higher education eventually took them in different directions, temporarily separating the pair. Despite the distance and changes that came with life, Okey Bakassi said destiny eventually brought them back together.
Years after their first meeting, the couple reunited and continued their relationship, ultimately deciding to spend the rest of their lives together.
On September 1, 2001, they exchanged marital vows in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the city where their journey had begun. Surrounded by family members and friends, the couple officially began their life as husband and wife.
Twenty-five years later, Okey Bakassi looked back on the journey with gratitude, describing their marriage as a product of love, trust, faith and humility.
The comedian also acknowledged the role of God in sustaining their family through the different seasons of their lives. He noted that their union has been blessed with three children, whom he described as “three lovely young adults”.
According to him, God has also preserved the family in good health while helping them navigate the challenges of a constantly changing world.
For Okey Bakassi, their 25-year marriage is not about breaking records or trying to prove doubters wrong. Instead, he described the milestone as a reflection of two people who chose to build their lives together and remain committed to the decision they made years ago.
The veteran entertainer expressed appreciation to his wife for standing by him throughout their marriage and for the sacrifices she has made along the way.
Addressing Ezinne affectionately as “Zizi”, Okey Bakassi thanked her for accepting his proposal 25 years ago, believing in him and remaining by his side through the different experiences they have encountered together.
He also credited her with helping him find direction, acknowledging the importance of her presence and support throughout their journey.
In an emotional message to his wife, the actor said, “Zizi, my darling wife, thanks for saying YES 25yrs ago…thanks for believing, thanks for staying, thanks for helping me find direction, thanks for your sacrifices.”
He further expressed his desire to spend many more years with her, adding, “Please, let’s do another 25yrs and beyond….you know me as no one does. I love you forever.”
He concluded his tribute by wishing his wife a happy 25th wedding anniversary.
The couple’s milestone comes as a celebration of a relationship that began with youthful friendship and love letters before evolving into a lasting marriage and family.
From their first meeting in 1988 to their wedding in 2001 and the years that followed, Okey Bakassi and Ezinne have built a family while navigating the demands and changes that come with marriage.
