Ogogo’s Family Thanks Senator Yayi For Standing By Actor During Illness

 The family of late Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has expressed appreciation to Senator Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi, for standing by the actor and his family during his final days.

The family conveyed its gratitude in a statement shared through Ogogo’s Instagram account on Thursday, several days after the respected actor passed away.

According to the family, Adeola provided both financial assistance and personal support while Ogogo was receiving treatment. 

They said his intervention brought encouragement to the family at a time when they were dealing with the uncertainty surrounding the actor’s health.

The family described the senator’s support as more than just financial assistance, saying he showed genuine concern for Ogogo’s condition and remained involved throughout the treatment process.

They noted that his willingness to assist became particularly significant as the family searched for ways to secure the best possible medical care for the veteran actor.

Although Ogogo eventually lost his battle with the illness, his family said it was important to publicly acknowledge people who remained supportive during his difficult period.

The family also expressed appreciation for Adeola’s wife, Temitope, who was involved in supporting Ogogo and his relatives during the challenging period.

Adeola had previously disclosed that he and his wife made efforts to assist the actor and his family, including helping to facilitate medical treatment.

Ogogo, who was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66.

The actor had reportedly been diagnosed with advanced cancer only a few weeks before his death. His daughters, Kira Hassan and Haleemah, had earlier spoken about his condition and sought assistance as the family explored available treatment options.

Reports indicated that the illness had progressed to an advanced stage and was affecting his abdomen, leaving the actor in considerable discomfort.

Following his death, tributes poured in from colleagues, fans and other members of the Nigerian entertainment industry, many of whom remembered him for his contribution to Yoruba cinema and his long-standing career as an actor.

Ogogo was laid to rest according to Islamic traditions in Ilaro, Ogun State, on August 24, a day after his death.

For his family, the loss remains painful, but they have chosen to remember those who offered support during the actor’s final battle.

In their message to Adeola, they prayed that Allah would reward him and his family for the kindness shown to Ogogo.

The family also stressed that the senator’s assistance would remain part of their memories of the actor’s final days.

Ogogo’s death marked the passing of one of Yoruba Nollywood’s recognisable faces, bringing an end to a career that earned him admiration from audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
