Mr Eazi has a message for people who treat every relationship advice as though it comes with a one-size-fits-all solution.
The singer and businessman pointed to his own relationship with Temi Otedola while explaining why couples need to be careful about the advice they choose to follow.
According to him, some of the things people confidently present as rules for relationships may not necessarily work for everyone.
One example is the familiar advice that tells people to walk away from someone they love and simply wait to see whether the person returns.
It sounds simple enough. Give the other person space, let them go and trust that, if the relationship is truly meant to be, they will eventually find their way back.
But Mr Eazi does not seem convinced that this approach should automatically be applied to every relationship.
He put it this way:
“They said if you love them, let them go; if it's meant to be, they will come back to you! Imagine say I listened to that advice? Smh. Please, not every advice is meant for you.”
The point he was making is that relationships are not identical. Two couples can face what looks like the same problem but arrive at completely different decisions because their circumstances, personalities and understanding of each other are different.
For Mr Eazi, simply following a popular relationship rule could have meant walking away from something he was not ready to give up on.
His relationship with Temi has been in the public eye for years, but the two have generally had their own way of handling their relationship.
They started dating in 2017 and became engaged in 2022. Mr Eazi proposed to Temi while they were in Venice, with the moment forming part of the story behind his song Legalize.
That history gives some context to his point. There are moments in a relationship when outside advice can be useful, but there are also moments when the people involved have to make decisions based on what they actually know about each other.
The popular phrase about letting someone go and waiting for them to return may sound romantic, but it does not take into account why the relationship is struggling in the first place.
Sometimes people need space. Sometimes they need an honest conversation. Sometimes they need to work through a difficult period together. And in some cases, ending the relationship may genuinely be the right decision.
There is no single formula that can cover all of those situations.
That appears to be what Mr Eazi was getting at when he warned, “Please, not every advice is meant for you.”
Rather than accepting every relationship rule simply because it has been repeated many times, couples can consider their own circumstances before deciding what to do. Advice can offer another perspective, but the people in the relationship are the ones who ultimately have to live with the decision.
For Mr Eazi, following that particular piece of advice could have produced a very different story.
