Nollywood is gearing up for what promises to be one of its most action-packed months yet, as September 2026 rolls out an impressive slate of films and series spanning multiple genres from gripping thrillers and heartfelt romances to cultural epics and laugh-out-loud comedies.
Beyond the sheer volume of releases, the month also carries historic weight, with one production aiming to set a Guinness World Record by drawing 50,000 attendees to its premiere.
Kicking things off on September 3rd is A Mama Deola's Wedding Story, a comedy-drama helmed by Femi Adebayo and produced by Folagade Banks.
The film centers on a determined mother who goes to outrageous lengths and survives no shortage of chaos to finance her son's dream wedding. Notably, this project marks content creator Folagbade Banks' first venture into feature filmmaking.
Its cast draws from both established and rising Nollywood talent, including Shaffy Bello, Toyin Abraham, Omowunmi Dada, Rotimi Salami, Bukky Wright, Erica Nlewedim, Iya Rainbow, and Akin Lewis. It streams exclusively on Kava TV.
That same day, Kava TV also brings back Confusion Na Wa, Kenneth Gyang's acclaimed 2013 dark comedy that earned Best Picture honors at the 9th African Movie Academy Awards.
The story follows a single lost phone that sets off a chain of interconnected events across 24 chaotic hours in a Nigerian city, featuring performances from Ramsey Nouah, Ali Nuhu, OC Ukeje, Tunde Aladese, and Tony Goodman.
September 4th brings a wave of new titles. Moses Inwang's crime thriller Ordinary People lands on Netflix, unraveling a web of betrayal, hidden money, and paranoia within a seemingly quiet neighborhood, led by a star-heavy cast including Ramsey Nouah, Adunni Ade, Chidi Mokeme, and Jackie Appiah.
The same date sees the cinema debut of Nne Mgbafor, a historical epic rooted in Ohafia warrior tradition, following a woman who challenges convention to reshape her community's fate.
Also opening that day is Properties of the Gods, a period drama tackling the Igbo caste system through a forbidden romance, featuring veteran actor Pete Edochie alongside Onyeka Onwenu in what is being noted as her final screen role.
Mid-month brings more wedding-themed chaos with Teni's Big Day (September 10), where an ex-boyfriend's unexpected appearance derails a bride's special day, and Ajosepo (September 10), a Kayode Kasum-directed tale of buried secrets surfacing during wedding preparations.
September 11th delivers a trio of releases: 19, a cybercrime drama tracing one man's descent into fraud; Invitation to Kill, a suspense-driven story of betrayal and rebuilding after loss; and One Gigi Night, a tense crime thriller unfolding over a single night in Lagos.
Later in the month, 3 Wise Men (September 17) follows three retirees embracing a wild new chapter of nightlife and adventure, while Strangers (September 24) tells a true-events-inspired story of kindness transforming a struggling boy's life.
That same day, Ajosepo 2 continues the drama from its predecessor, this time centered on a missing event planner and a vanished wedding budget.
Rounding out the month, Starlomo (September 25) marks comedian Kamo State's latest cinema outing exploring themes of ambition and breakthrough, while Black Market (September 26) aiming for that record-breaking premiere at Tafawa Balewa Square follows five market women caught in a smuggling operation amid fuel scarcity.
With this packed lineup, September stands as more than just another month on Nollywood's calendar it's a showcase of the industry's expanding creative range and growing global footprint.
