Nollywood Stars Visit Olu Jacobs’ Family Days After His Death

Nollywood actors Dayo Amusa, Grace Amah and other members of the Nigerian film industry have visited the family of veteran actor Olu Jacobs to offer their condolences following his death.

The actors were seen at the residence of the Jacobs family in a video shared online. Their visit came a few days after the family confirmed the passing of the celebrated actor, who died on September 16 at the age of 84.

Olu Jacobs’ death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, through Instagram. In the family’s message, the veteran actor was remembered as “The Lion of Lufodo,” while relatives also appealed to members of the media and social media users to allow the family to mourn privately.

Born Oludotun Baiyewu Olu Jacobs on July 11, 1942, the late actor enjoyed a career that stretched across more than five decades. 

His work covered theatre, television and film, establishing him as one of the most recognised figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Before becoming a major name in Nollywood, Olu Jacobs studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and worked in British theatre and television. 

During that period, he appeared in international productions including The Dogs of War, Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend and Pirates.

He later returned to Nigeria and became a prominent figure in the country’s film industry, featuring in numerous productions while also maintaining links with theatre and film production.

Olu Jacobs and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, co-founded the Lufodo Group and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, contributing to the development of theatre and professional training.
