Double Wife, a Nollywood romantic comedy released by NollyRok Studios, brings together Ruth Kadiri, Uzor Arukwe, Sarian Martins and other talented actors in a story built around deception, family pressure and unexpected romance.
The film follows Judy, played by Ruth Kadiri, and her cousin Margaret, portrayed by Sarian Martins, as they struggle with the constant pressure to settle down.
Judy, in particular, finds herself overwhelmed by her mother's determination to see her married. From creating online dating profiles without her consent to arranging surprise church deliverance sessions, her mother's efforts eventually push Judy to take matters into her own hands.
During a getaway at a resort, Judy and Margaret come up with an unusual plan. They decide to wear wedding rings and pretend to be married in an attempt to escape the pressure of being single and appear more attractive to potential suitors. To make their story convincing, they use the name of a man whose business card they find at the resort.
That man turns out to be Ben Uda, a wealthy and successful CEO played by Uzor Arukwe. Judy begins presenting herself as Mrs Judy Uda, unaware that the harmless-looking prank is about to create a much bigger problem.
The situation becomes complicated when Judy meets Wilson, a charming investment banker who becomes interested in her and eventually proposes marriage.
However, Wilson wants to meet her supposed husband before moving forward. This forces Judy to track down the real Ben and convince him to participate in her elaborate deception.
What begins as a strange favour quickly turns into a series of hilarious misunderstandings. Ben is suddenly caught in a fake marriage he knows nothing about, while Judy struggles to keep her story from falling apart.
The situation becomes even more chaotic with family involvement, questionable explanations and confrontations between the men.
As Judy and Ben spend more time together, however, their relationship begins to change. What initially starts with confusion and irritation gradually develops into genuine affection.
Judy eventually discovers that her relationship with Wilson was largely driven by the excitement surrounding her deception, while her connection with Ben develops naturally.
Beyond its comedy, Double Wife explores the pressure placed on women to marry and the lengths people may go to when they feel judged for being single. The film also examines the consequences of building relationships around lies and false identities.
Uzor Arukwe gives an entertaining performance as Ben, particularly in scenes where his serious personality clashes with the bizarre situation he has been dragged into.
Ruth Kadiri also brings strong comedic timing and charm to Judy, making her character's questionable decisions entertaining while still allowing the audience to understand her frustrations.
Overall, Double Wife offers a lighthearted blend of romance, comedy and family drama. Although some of the situations are deliberately exaggerated, the entertaining performances, humorous dialogue and chemistry between Ruth Kadiri and Uzor Arukwe keep the story engaging.
At its heart, the film suggests that while deception may create unexpected situations, genuine love is often found when people stop pretending and confront the truth.
