It’s partially your fault If You Are Still Struggling As A Graduate

Automobile influencer Ola of Lagos has urged graduates who are having difficulty finding jobs to take a more persistent approach when looking for opportunities.

According to him, getting a job is not always about waiting for the right person to notice you. He believes job seekers also need to make the effort to put themselves in front of people who can give them an opportunity.

Speaking during an interview on TheKKShow podcast, Ola explained that some of the people currently working with him did not simply get their positions by chance. He said they repeatedly contacted him through direct messages until they eventually got his attention.

That experience, he said, should encourage other graduates who are still searching for work to become more deliberate about reaching out and showing that they are serious about what they want.

“To people that are graduates that are still struggling, it’s partially your fault", he stated. 

His comments also touched on another issue that often comes with getting a job under an established businessperson: expectations.

Ola said people should not assume that working for someone successful automatically means they will become wealthy themselves. In his view, being close to a successful person can provide an opportunity to learn, gain experience and grow, but it does not mean the person will immediately hand over their wealth.

He used billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk as an example, explaining that even someone with enormous wealth still has personal ambitions and projects that require attention.

He said:

“You have to understand that it’s a process. Elon Musk can be paying you $200 in a month because he has trillions of dollars or billions of dollars. Doesn’t mean he go pack everything give you.”

For Ola, employees also need to understand that the person they work for may be trying to build something bigger. Because of that, anyone hoping to grow alongside a successful individual should be prepared to start small and allow the relationship to develop over time.

“You have to understand that Elon Musk is trying to go to another level too, and if you really want to go with him, you have to calm down", he said.

The influencer's message was largely about patience and understanding how career growth works. He encouraged people not to measure their progress only by how much money they are making at the beginning of their journey.

Instead, he said people should give themselves time to learn, gain experience and gradually move forward.

Ola also asked people to remain patient rather than becoming frustrated because things are not happening as quickly as they expected.

“People should calm down. They should trust the process. Calm down. This is what I’m talking about here. Every CEO can relate, even yourself. You need to calm down", he said.

For graduates still searching for opportunities, his advice is to keep putting themselves out there while understanding that getting an opportunity is only one part of building a career. The next part, he suggested, is staying patient enough to learn from the experience and grow from it.
