The man who accused Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe, popularly known as Pastor Genesis and the founder of Genesis Global, of keeping and worshipping an idol in his home has now come forward to withdraw the allegation and ask for forgiveness.
The man explained that the accusation was made at a time when he was going through a difficult period in his life. He said he had been battling serious depression and was constantly dealing with heavy thoughts.
According to him, some of his friends noticed what he was going through and advised him to take alcohol, believing it would help him relax and reduce the burden of his thoughts. He said he eventually followed their advice, despite not having a history of drinking.
He specifically claimed that the day he made the accusations against Pastor Genesis was the first time he had ever taken alcohol.
He said he was under the influence when he made the statements and did not realise the seriousness of the things he was saying at the time. He has now rejected the allegation that Pastor Genesis had an idol in his home and described his earlier claims as a lie.
In a direct appeal to Nigerians and Pastor Genesis, he said:
"Please Nigerians, help me, I was only under the influence of alcohol. That was my first time ever taking alcohol.. It's a lie, Genesis didn't have any Idol at home. Please, Genesis I beg you, pity me, it was alcohol ".
His plea was specifically directed at Pastor Genesis, whom he asked to forgive him for the accusation.
The development comes after the man's earlier statements about the cleric had raised questions about the allegation and what may have led him to make such claims in the first place.
Rather than maintain his previous position, he has now given a different account of what happened, blaming his state of mind and his first experience with alcohol for the statements he made.
He also appealed to Nigerians to understand the circumstances surrounding his earlier comments, saying he was not in the right state of mind when he made them.
For Pastor Genesis, the key part of the man's latest statement is his clear denial of the original allegation. He said there was no idol in the cleric's home and asked for forgiveness for saying otherwise.
The man’s latest account remains his own explanation of what happened, while the original accusation and subsequent retraction would need to be considered in their full context.
