Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has rejected reports linking her to the All Progressives Congress Lagos State Campaign Council, saying she is not part of the committee despite being listed among members representing the entertainment industry.
She addressed the issue on Thursday through her Instagram Story after her name appeared on a list released by the Lagos chapter of the APC.
The list featured several prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment and creative sectors under the directorate assigned to the industry.
In her response, she maintained that she had already made her position on political involvement clear. She said she intended to remain outside politics and asked the public to disregard the appearance of her name on the campaign council list.
Her clarification came shortly before the scheduled inauguration of the council, which is expected to take place on Friday, September 18, at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road in Ikeja.
The published list includes a number of well-known entertainers. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, actress Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Abass Akande Obesere and Adewale Ayuba were among the names listed alongside Toyin Abraham.
The Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate is headed by Toke Benson Awoyinka as director, while Kosoko is named co-director and Badmus serves as deputy director. Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, is listed as the directorate’s secretary.
Other personalities included on the list are Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Fathia Balogun, Yinka Quadri and Tayo Sobola. Fuji musicians Sulaimon Alao Adekunle, known as Malaika, and Akorede Babatunde Okunola, popularly called Osupa, also appear on the list. Singer Small Doctor, whose real name is Temitope Adekunle, is another entertainment figure named.
Her denial has drawn attention partly because of her previous involvement in political conversations. During the 2023 presidential election, she publicly expressed support for Bola Tinubu and explained her reasons for backing him.
That position generated criticism on social media at the time, with some Nigerians insulting and trolling her over her political stance.
Her latest statement, however, makes clear that she does not consider herself a member of the Lagos APC campaign council and does not want to be identified as part of the campaign committee.
The development comes as political parties continue to involve prominent personalities from the entertainment and creative sectors in their campaign structures, reflecting the visibility and public reach of Nigeria’s celebrity community.
