‘I Was Tired of Being Average’ – Bae U on His Career Change

Nigerian comedian and content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Bae U Barbie, has opened up about his decision to move away from conventional skit making and pursue a different direction in entertainment.

The content creator made the revelation while speaking during an episode of The Moraya Show, where he discussed the journey that eventually led to the creation of his popular interview and comedy programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

According to Bae U, his decision was largely driven by a desire to challenge himself creatively. He explained that he reached a point where he no longer wanted to remain within the familiar space occupied by many skit makers.

Rather than continuing with a format that had become common among content creators, Bae U said he wanted to discover another side of himself and develop something that would distinguish him from his colleagues.

He explained that Curiosity Made Me Ask emerged during this period of self-discovery. The programme allowed him to combine humour with interviews, creating an avenue for him to engage personalities from different backgrounds while maintaining his comedic identity.

Bae U also identified Zack, who created the show Between Two Fence, as one of the influences behind his decision to develop the interview format.

His transition has since given him the opportunity to interact with some of Nigeria’s most recognisable personalities. 

Among those he has featured are former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, veteran actor Pete Edochie and broadcaster Frank
