“I Have So Much Respect For The OGs” — Rema Addresses Feud Rumours With Davido

Rema has made it clear that there is no personal disagreement between him and Davido, despite the constant comparisons and arguments that sometimes surround their names.

The singer spoke about the issue during a recent interview with Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez. The conversation touched on the way fans compare artistes, particularly younger acts with established names in the Nigerian music scene.

For Rema, those comparisons do not necessarily mean there is a problem between the artistes involved.

He specifically dismissed the idea that he has an issue with Davido and said his relationship with artistes from the older generation is based on respect.

“Davido and I have no issues; those are just rumours. I have so much respect for the OGs. Fans are always the ones starting things. I used to caution my fans, but sometimes the other artiste enjoys the comparisons and doesn’t do the same, so I stopped", he said.

The comment also gave some insight into how Rema has dealt with conversations involving his fans over the years.

The singer explained that he previously tried to discourage his supporters from turning comparisons between him and other artistes into unnecessary arguments. However, he said he eventually became less interested in doing so when he felt that the same effort was not always coming from the other side.

Rather than spending his time responding to every comparison, Rema said he chose to step back.

His comments come against the backdrop of the way Nigerian artistes are often placed side by side by their supporters. Discussions about who is bigger, who has achieved more or who deserves more recognition can quickly turn into arguments between different fan bases.

Rema has repeatedly positioned himself as an artiste who respects those who paved the way before him, and his latest comments followed that same line.

Davido, one of the biggest names in Afrobeats, belongs to an earlier generation of Nigerian artistes who helped take the country's pop sound to a much wider international audience. Rema emerged years later as part of a younger wave of musicians who have also built significant audiences outside Nigeria.

That difference in generation has often made comparisons between the two artistes almost unavoidable, especially among fans. But Rema's latest remarks suggest that the conversations happening among supporters should not automatically be interpreted as a reflection of the relationship between the musicians themselves.

He also did not present the situation as a personal battle with Davido. Instead, he focused on the role fans play in creating comparisons and said his respect for the older artistes remains intact.

For Rema, the message appears straightforward: fans can have their comparisons and debates, but that does not mean the artistes being compared are carrying the same tension.

The singer's response therefore puts his position on the matter in simple terms whatever rivalry exists in fan conversations should not be mistaken for a personal issue between him and Davido.
