The family of veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs has announced plans for his final farewell, with a Night of Tributes and funeral service scheduled to take place in Lagos.
Veteran actress Gloria Anozie Young shared the details on her Instagram page, giving fans, colleagues and well-wishers information about the ceremonies planned in honour of the late actor.
A Night of Tributes will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Glover Memorial Hall, located at 4 Customs Street, Marina, Lagos Island. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM, with guests expected to dress in shades of blue.
The funeral service will follow two days later, on Friday, October 2, 2026. It will take place at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, beginning at 10:00 AM. The dress code for the funeral service is shades of green.
The arrangements mark the final ceremonies for Jacobs, who was widely recognised for his long and distinguished career in Nigerian theatre, television and film.
Born Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, MFR, Olu Jacobs built a career that stretched across more than five decades. He became a familiar face to generations of Nigerian audiences through his work on stage and screen, taking on a wide range of roles throughout his career.
Jacobs was also respected beyond Nollywood for his work in theatre and his contribution to the growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry. His career included both local and international productions, helping establish him as one of the prominent actors of his generation.
He died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
His death marked the end of a remarkable chapter in a career that had already made him one of the most recognisable names in Nigerian acting.
As preparations continue for the burial ceremonies, the Night of Tributes will provide an opportunity for people who knew Jacobs, worked with him or admired his work to gather in his honour before the funeral service.
The two events will be held in Lagos, with the different dress codes announced as part of the arrangements.
Olu Jacobs leaves behind a body of work that spans several decades and remains an important part of Nigeria’s acting history.
