"He Shaped My Career" – Faithia Williams Honours Late Ogogo

Nollywood actress Faithia Williams has honoured her late colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, with an emotional tribute that recounted how much he shaped her journey in the industry after she relocated from London to Nigeria.

Kemi Filani had earlier reported that the veteran actor passed away on Sunday, August 23, following a prolonged battle with stage 4 cancer, a development his daughter confirmed through a live video that quickly spread across social media. 

He was laid to rest the following Monday in a ceremony attended by scores of his colleagues from across Nollywood.

Speaking at his eighth-day Fidau prayer, Faithia described Ogogo as far more than just a boss. She recalled how warmly he received her when she returned home from abroad and joined the Odunfa acting troupe, crediting him with playing a major role in building her career and character.

 She painted a picture of a man who was consistently honest, calm, and impossible to replace within the industry.

The tribute formed part of a wider outpouring of grief that has continued to trail the actor's death. Hundreds of fans and well-wishers gathered in Abule Egba to celebrate his life, with images of the late star projected on a large screen as mourners paid their final respects. 

Fellow actors Ibrahim Chatta, Itele, and Kelvin Ikeduba also featured in a widely circulated clip, speaking in their native dialect about his generosity and kindness while offering prayers for his soul.

Shortly after the burial, actor Sunday Afolabi visited his graveside, where he expressed heartbreak over losing a man he described as handsome and adored by many. 

He suggested that if death could be negotiated with, everyone who loved Ogogo would have given anything to keep him alive, adding that their prayers ultimately could not stop his passing.

Elsewhere, Modinat Aramide Lawal, known in the industry as Iya Dabira, organised a Salat session at her residence in his memory. 

During the funeral itself, veteran actor Yinka Quadri was pictured breaking down in tears upon arriving at the venue, while Femi Adebayo also grew emotional while addressing the loss during a separate movie premiere, describing Ogogo as a fighter who battled his illness with everything he had.

Fuji musicians K1 De Ultimate and Malaika were similarly overcome with emotion mid-performance, and actress Bimbo Thomas struggled to hold back tears as she reflected on the news, noting that while the loss was painful, she trusted in God's plan. In a further show of respect, Ogun State governorship candidate Senator Yayi mounted billboards across the state in Ogogo's honour, cementing the scale of tribute paid to the late screen icon.
