Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has given fans of her popular series She Must Be Obeyed a reason to look forward to another chapter of the story.
The actress recently confirmed that preparations for the second season of the drama are already underway, putting an end to growing uncertainty over whether the series would return.
A fan identified as Aku Oma had expressed frustration over the long wait for a follow-up season while reacting to Funke Akindele on X. The fan jokingly suggested that she might have to reach the age of 40 before the next instalment of the series would be released.
Funke responded with laughing emojis before assuring the fan that production plans were already in motion.
Her brief response, “we are working on it,” immediately sparked renewed interest among viewers who have been waiting for more of the story since the first season premiered.
She Must Be Obeyed debuted on Prime Video in September 2023 as a five-part drama centred on the complicated world of the Nigerian music industry.
The story follows Siyanbola Adewale, better known by her stage name SHE, a highly successful Afrobeats star whose determination to maintain her position at the top exposes her to intense competition, personal conflicts and manipulation.
Throughout the series, SHE faces challenges that extend beyond her music career, with relationships and professional ambitions becoming increasingly complicated. Themes including fame, rivalry, betrayal and the struggle for control played important roles in the storyline.
Akindele took on the lead role while also serving as one of the directors. She directed the series alongside Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz.
The production featured an ensemble cast of notable Nigerian entertainers, including Waje, Veeiye, Nancy Isime, Lateef Adedimeji, Akah Nnani, Mike Ezuruonye, Rachael Okonkwo, Patience Ozokwo, IK Ogbonna and Ali Nuhu.
The conclusion of the first season left several aspects of SHE’s journey unresolved, creating opportunities for the characters and their conflicts to be explored further in a possible continuation.
Although Funke has confirmed that work has started on the second season, she has not revealed when filming will be completed or when the new episodes will become available to viewers.
Fans may therefore have to wait for further announcements regarding the cast, storyline and official release date.
For now, the actress’s confirmation provides an indication that She Must Be Obeyed has not been abandoned and that audiences could eventually see SHE return for another round of drama, ambition and challenges within the entertainment industry.
