American actor Alan Ritchson, widely recognised for his role as Jack Reacher in the action series Reacher, and his wife Catherine have ended their 20-year marriage.
The former couple announced their separation in a joint statement shared on Ritchson’s Instagram page on Saturday, explaining that they had decided to continue their relationship in a different capacity.
Ritchson and Catherine, who got married in 2006, said their two decades together were filled with love, shared experiences and the building of a family. They added that despite the end of their marriage, they remain committed to supporting each other and raising their three sons together.
“After twenty years together. Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the statement read.
The couple reflected on the journey they shared, describing how they grew together and created a family during their time as husband and wife.
“We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the centre of our world,” they said.
Although they did not disclose the reason behind their decision to separate, Ritchson and Catherine emphasised that the years they spent together remain meaningful and that their respect for each other has not changed.
“Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us-or the love and respect we will always share,” they added.
Couple Focuses On Co-Parenting
While their marriage has come to an end, the couple said their priority remains their children.
They explained that the best way forward for their family is to maintain a healthy friendship and work together as parents.
“The best gift we can give one another – and our boys – right now is friendship; grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be,” they stated.
The former couple also acknowledged that their separation would attract public attention because of Ritchson’s career and growing popularity in Hollywood.
They asked fans and the public to respect their privacy as they navigate the new phase of their lives.
“We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming. Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in,” they said.
The pair added that they hoped people would allow their family to handle the transition away from the public eye, especially for the sake of their children.
“We hope, especially for the sake of our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion,” they said.

The announcement comes as Ritchson continues to enjoy success in Hollywood, particularly through his role as Jack Reacher in Reacher, the action thriller series based on Lee Child’s popular novels.
The 43-year-old actor began his career with an appearance on the television series Smallville, where he featured in its fifth and 10th seasons.
He later appeared in several film and television projects before securing his breakthrough role as Aquaman in Smallville and gaining further recognition through productions such as Blue Mountain State and Titans.
However, his portrayal of Jack Reacher has become one of the biggest roles of his career, earning him international recognition.

Ritchson and Catherine’s separation marks the end of a relationship that lasted two decades.
Although the couple chose not to discuss personal details surrounding the decision, their statement focused on gratitude for the life they built together and their determination to remain united as parents.
