Veekee James is looking beyond the usual ways fashion creatives make money, and for her, the bigger goal is to build a fashion business where a single creation can command a six-figure price.
The fashion designer opened up about that ambition while speaking on the CreativiTea podcast, where she discussed the difference between earning through content creation, working with brands and building value around her actual craft.
Rather than seeing content creation as the ultimate destination, Veekee appears to view it as just one part of a much bigger picture. Her long-term ambition is to get to a point where the work she produces as a designer can independently bring in significant amounts of money.
“My dream is to start charging $100k to sew one dress.
I can’t make that much money from content creation.
The most a brand can give you is $500k, and that’s usually for a year-long contract.”
Her comments highlight the economics behind the different sides of her career. Content creation can provide visibility and open doors to commercial opportunities, while brand partnerships can bring in substantial income. But according to Veekee, there is a limit to how much those avenues can offer compared with the value she believes she can eventually create through fashion.
The distinction she makes is particularly important. A $500,000 brand deal might sound like a huge figure, but she points out that such an amount would typically be tied to a year-long contract. Her dream, on the other hand, is to build a model where the value of one dress alone can reach $100,000.
That ambition places the focus firmly on the craftsmanship, reputation and identity attached to her designs.
For a designer, pricing a garment at that level is not simply about the fabric used or the number of hours spent sewing it. It is also about the name behind the piece, the creativity involved, the exclusivity of the design and the position the designer has established within the fashion industry.
Veekee's comments suggest that she is thinking about that bigger picture.
She is not simply talking about making expensive clothes. She is talking about reaching a level where her work carries enough value for clients to willingly pay a premium for a single creation.
That also explains why content creation may not be enough for the kind of future she has in mind. While digital content can help a creative person build an audience and attract opportunities, Veekee's ultimate ambition appears to be rooted in turning her creative skill itself into the main product.
The $100,000 figure therefore represents more than just a price tag. It reflects the level of recognition and value she hopes to attach to her work as her career continues to grow.
For now, it remains a dream. But Veekee James has made it clear that she is thinking far beyond simply securing another brand deal or creating another piece of content. She wants to build a fashion name strong enough that one dress can be worth six figures.
