The Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has extended a public message of gratitude to Nigerians who rallied around veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, throughout his illness and following his passing.
Speaking on behalf of the association, president Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, shared a tribute post acknowledging the outpouring of prayers, phone calls, visits, and messages of support the family received during a difficult period.
The statement emphasized how much the collective show of solidarity meant to Ogogo's loved ones and the wider TAMPAN community.
Ogogo passed away on August 23 at age 66, a loss first confirmed publicly by fellow actor Jide Kosoko.
The veteran performer had been fighting stage four cancer, with his daughters, Kira and Lima, having previously made public appeals seeking financial and medical support as his health worsened.
His body was transported to his hometown of Ilaro in Ogun State, where he was laid to rest on August 24 in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The burial drew a large turnout of mourners, including fellow actors such as Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Faithia Williams, Femi Adebayo, Saidi Balogun, and Dele Odule, alongside family, friends, and members of the local community.
Born in Ilaro in October 1959, Ogogo built a career in Yoruba-language cinema spanning more than four decades, beginning in the early 1980s.
Beyond acting, he took on production and filmmaking roles, contributing to notable titles such as Owo Blow, Omo Ghetto, and Aníkúlápó, cementing his legacy as one of the industry's respected veterans.
