The family of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has appealed for urgent medical assistance after revealing that the actor is battling stage-four cancer.

The actor’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, separately shared emotional videos on Instagram on Monday, seeking help from Nigerians, medical professionals and individuals with access to cancer treatment.

Lima, while struggling to hold back tears, said her father’s condition had become critical and claimed that hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him.

“Hello everybody, good evening. I’m here to ask for help from my daddy. He has cancer and it’s really, really bad.

“And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance. Nobody wants to do anything,” she said.

She disclosed that the family only became aware of the seriousness of the actor’s condition about three weeks ago, despite his appearance not initially suggesting that he was seriously ill.

“You see him, you can’t even know that. Something is wrong that bad. It’s just starting to show. We didn’t even know until like three weeks ago,” Lima said.

The actress’s daughter stressed that the family was not appealing for financial donations. Instead, she asked for assistance in identifying hospitals, doctors or specialists who could take on her father’s case.

“Please, I’m begging you. If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” she appealed.

Lima also expressed gratitude to a family member who had stepped in to support them during the difficult period.

“My big uncle has helped a lot. He has been of great help. Like, nobody even knew that he would show up for us this way,” she said.

In a separate video, Kira provided more details about her father’s condition, confirming that he had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer.

“Hello everyone, I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and is in stage 4. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said.

Kira also acknowledged Senator Yayi for supporting the family financially and helping to cover some of the actor’s medical expenses.

“And I really, really, really love to appreciate Senator Yayi. He has been the one helping us, he has been the one footing the bills,” she said.

Despite the situation, Kira said the family remained willing to explore any legitimate treatment option that could improve her father’s condition.

“What I’m here for, what I’m here for is that if you can treat my daddy, if you can start chemo for him, whether it’s medical or herbs, please, I’m begging you, guys, I’m begging you, any help, anything, anybody that you know that can treat cancer, please, please, I’m begging you,” she said.

She subsequently urged medical professionals or organisations capable of providing treatment to contact the family privately.

“Please, please, if you can treat my daddy, please send me a DM. I’ll be checking my phone. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die,” Kira added.

The emotional appeal became more intense as she described the difficulty of watching her father suffer. She also revealed that the actor had expressed fears about dying.

“God, give me strength. I’m suffering so bad. There’s no money, but if you know anybody that can treat my daddy, Andrew, please,” she said.

“He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” Kira added.

Ogogo, 66, is one of the respected names in Yoruba-language cinema. With more than four decades in the Nigerian film industry, he has featured in over 300 movies and built a reputation as an actor, filmmaker and influential figure in Nollywood.

His career has spanned several generations of Yoruba cinema, earning him a large following among Nigerian audiences.

The family’s appeal has since generated concern among fans and colleagues, with many calling for medical professionals and other well-wishers to assist the veteran actor.

However, neither the family nor Ogogo’s management has provided further details about the specific type of cancer he is battling or the identity of the hospital currently managing his treatment.

For now, his daughters are appealing for medical intervention that could give the veteran actor another opportunity to receive treatment and continue his fight against the disease.
