Nigerian filmmaker Toka McBaror's thriller The Takers is finally available to audiences after a lengthy wait, with the movie now streaming on Prime Video.
The release comes nearly seven years after the film's trailer was first unveiled, bringing the long-anticipated project to viewers on the international streaming platform.
Produced by Evolution Studio 66, The Takers explores a tense struggle involving family, community and power. The story is set in northern Nigeria and follows a group of farmers who are pushed into confronting an oppressive system that has controlled their lives for an extended period.
At the heart of the film are themes of identity, resistance and the desire for freedom. As the characters confront a conflict rooted in tribal and family divisions, the narrative examines the difficult choices that can emerge when people are forced to fight for control of their future.
McBaror co-wrote the project with Chloe Coko and also directs the film. The production features an ensemble cast that includes Josephine Sunday, Doenn Otse Chia, Tiga George Francis Gandah, Kwazu, Gabriel Akhuetie and Kiyan To.
The creative team behind the movie includes sound designer Henry Seth and composer Orfega Bezaleel Uzuwa, while Evolution Studio 66 handled the costume design.
Their contributions help shape the atmosphere of a production built around suspense, conflict and emotionally charged situations.
The film also reflects McBaror's established interest in stories driven by tension and moral uncertainty. His previous credits include The Millions, Dark October and The Waiter, projects that have contributed to his profile within Nigeria's evolving film industry.
With its Prime Video release, The Takers is now positioned to reach a wider audience beyond the Nigerian market. The arrival gives viewers an opportunity to discover a Nigerian thriller centred on power struggles, liberation and the consequences of resistance.
After years of anticipation surrounding its release, the film has finally moved from a long-awaited project to a streaming title available to audiences.
