“Nobody Really Gives a Shit What Vacation You’re On, Posting Your Everything You Do On Social Media Is A Waste — Erigga

There is a lot of pressure these days to let people know what is happening in your life.

A new trip comes with pictures. A nice dinner gets posted. A new car finds its way onto the timeline. Even ordinary outings can turn into something worth documenting once a phone camera and social media are involved.

For rapper Erigga, however, not everything needs to be shared.

The rapper recently gave his thoughts on the habit of constantly putting personal experiences online, questioning why people feel the need to show so much of their lives to others.

According to him, the desire to post everything can sometimes have less to do with the actual experience and more to do with how we want other people to see us.

Erigga said:

“I DON’T KNOW WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THIS, but I told someone this recently… Posting everything you do on social media is a waste of time. Your life isn’t that exciting. Neither is mine. We post the trips, cars, dinners and who we’re with because our ego wants people to think we’re important. Meanwhile, everyone else is busy living their own life. Nobody really gives a shit what vacation you’re on, what you drive, or who you’re with. And once you realize that, social media gets a lot less exhausting.”

His point touches on something many people can probably recognise in their everyday lives. Social media has made it normal to share almost every major moment, from where we are eating to where we are travelling and who we are spending time with.

Sometimes, it is simply about keeping friends and family updated. Other times, there can be an unspoken desire to show that life is going well.

That is the part Erigga appears to be questioning.

The rapper's argument is not necessarily that people should completely disappear from social media. Rather, he is pointing to the pressure that comes with feeling like every experience has to be seen by somebody else.

There are moments that can simply remain personal. A good meal can be enjoyed without a picture. A holiday can be memorable without an album of posts. Time spent with people you care about does not always need an audience.

For Erigga, realising that other people are usually occupied with their own lives can take some of the pressure away.

And perhaps that is why his final point is about exhaustion. When there is no longer a need to constantly prove that life is interesting, successful or exciting, there may be less reason to worry about what goes online.

In other words, live your life, enjoy your moments and do not feel like everything has to become content.
