Nigerian comedian Bovi has opened up about one of the most painful chapters of his life, describing how he was forced to compartmentalize his grief while continuing to perform in front of an audience.
Speaking during a recent interview, the entertainer revisited a traumatic 2012 incident involving his mother back in Delta State, which occurred while he was hundreds of kilometers away in Lagos, working an event on the island in Ilashe.
The distance between where he stood on stage and where his family was going through crisis became a defining, gut-wrenching contrast in his story.
According to Bovi, the news reached him mid-event, but professional obligations meant he couldn't simply walk away.
Instead, he made hurried phone calls to arrange backup, briefly stepped away, and then returned to finish hosting duties all while carrying the weight of what was unfolding hundreds of miles away.
He admitted to grappling with intense guilt over the decision, openly questioning whether continuing to work under those circumstances made him appear callous or unfeeling toward the woman who raised him.
Despite those internal doubts, he pushed through and completed the event as planned.
What made the experience particularly haunting, he explained, was the disconnect between his outward performance and his inner emotional state.
The crowd remained unaware of his turmoil, laughing and enjoying the show while he silently battled devastation beneath the surface.
He described feeling like he was falling apart internally even as he maintained a composed, entertaining exterior for the audience.
Looking back, Bovi characterized himself as being in a fragile, overwhelmed state during that period someone barely holding it together despite appearing functional and in control to everyone around him.
