Nollywood actress Uchenna Nnanna has shared the emotional story of how she narrowly escaped death after a horrific road accident in 2013, revealing that doctors fought tirelessly to keep her alive as she battled for survival in hospital.
The actress made the revelation during a heartfelt interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she reflected on some of the most painful moments of her life, including the devastating accident, the loss of her sisters and the deaths of both parents.
Speaking candidly, Nnanna described the crash as the most terrifying experience she has ever endured, saying it completely changed her perspective on life and strengthened her faith.
The Accident That Changed Everything
Recalling the incident, the actress explained that the road crash happened on a Monday in 2013 and left her in critical condition.
She said the injuries she sustained were so severe that doctors immediately began emergency procedures to stabilise her condition.
According to her, medical personnel worked relentlessly to save her life, placing her on oxygen support, administering intravenous drips and carrying out several other treatments as she struggled to recover.
“2013 was the first accident I ever had. The accident that almost took my life. It was on a Monday, and they had to put me on oxygen because I was almost going. They put oxygen on me to try to revive me, put drips; they were doing a whole lot. I was in the hospital for three weeks,” she said.
Nnanna revealed that spending three weeks in hospital gave her time to reflect on how fragile life can be and how quickly everything can change.
A Long Road To Recovery
Although she eventually recovered from the injuries, the experience left lasting emotional scars.
The actress admitted that surviving such a traumatic incident made her appreciate life more deeply and reminded her never to take each day for granted.
She said the accident became one of the defining moments of her life, teaching her resilience and the importance of remaining hopeful even during difficult circumstances.
For the actress, surviving the crash was nothing short of a miracle, and she credits both the efforts of medical professionals and God’s grace for her recovery.
Living With The Pain Of Loss
Beyond the accident, Nnanna also spoke about another painful chapter of her life—the loss of her sisters.
According to the actress, the tragedy affected her so deeply that she developed an intense fear of flying.
The emotional trauma lingered for years, making it difficult for her to board an aircraft even when work required her to travel.
“I have a phobia of flights. It took me years to start flying again after I lost my sisters,” she revealed.
She explained that although she has gradually overcome some of that fear, the painful memories remain with her whenever she has to travel by air.
Becoming An Orphan
The actress further reflected on losing both parents, describing the period as one of the most heartbreaking moments in her life.
She disclosed that her father’s death came shortly after her white wedding, leaving her emotionally devastated.
His passing also meant that she had lost both parents, making her an orphan.
Despite the pain, she said the lessons her parents taught her continue to guide her daily life.
Faith That Never Wavered
One lesson that has remained deeply rooted in her heart came from her late mother, who constantly relied on faith whenever the family faced difficult situations.
According to Nnanna, her mother always encouraged them to trust in God regardless of the challenges before them.
“When things are difficult, my mother would always say, ‘Mother Mary, would you allow my wine to finish,’” she recalled.
The phrase has remained a source of comfort throughout her life’s most challenging seasons.
Finding Strength Through Adversity
Today, Uchenna Nnanna says she draws strength from every trial she has overcome.
From surviving a near-fatal accident to coping with the deaths of loved ones, the actress believes each experience has shaped her into a stronger and more compassionate person.
Her story serves as a reminder that behind the glamour of the entertainment industry are individuals who have endured personal struggles, loss and unimaginable pain.
Despite everything she has experienced, Nnanna continues to inspire many with her resilience, faith and determination to move forward, proving that even after life’s darkest moments, hope and healing remain possible.
